You're welcome! It's not odd that cooler zones will report more fragrance from many than warmer areas. Those in the cooler places are probably smelling them when the oils and alcohols are most volatile and smell the most. We in the warmer areas often miss out because they evaporate faster as the heat increases. Also, as aridity increases, the scents burn out faster. The various components of each rose's fragrance evaporate at different rates, so one may smell very Damask at first, quickly morphing into orris or citrus, finishing a completely different scent before losing any detectable trace for the day. Kay, I just wanted to say that if you've changed your mind about a rose (like Tawny Tiger) you can always contact the company and change your order, either telling them you want to delete that rose or substitute another it its place. I've sometimes changed my order several times, which I don't like to do, but so often in the planning stages I find that I've made some silly mistake and some roses just won't work. That's quite an impressive list you have and I hope you have great success with them. I saw Hadley once and was quite impressed with it even though I'm not generally a lover of red roses. I had Lilac Dawn myself and planted it in the wrong place the first time and even after transplanting to what I thought was a better spot it didn't do well for me, perhaps because of the heat here, but I thought the flowers were lovely. Please keep us informed about how your roses do for you. It's always exciting to see someone's new rose garden develop, and of course we'll be expecting pictures. Ingrid

The revival of this thread made me wonder how that plant is doing - the house is the home of our niece and nephew, their 11 and 9 year old kids, and a dog. If you have relatives that age with kids you will know that they are busy 150% of the time, and don't have much time for gardening. They also do not have an irrigation system, and have assigned the watering of many plants to the kids (sigh). The last time I saw this rose it was still alive, but suffering from needing water. As I recall, none of the cuttings I had took. However, the next time I am there I will definitely take more cuttings, and see what I can do. Jackie

I am so glad this TdL/RJG thread is continuing! Thank you both so much for your updates, and Sheila, thank you for those informative (and beautiful) photos. I am very curious to hear about the outcomes of both of your trials as your Teas mature. Posting your outcomes and the sources of your plants on HMF might help out a lot of other gardeners, too. The mix-up between these lovely old pink Teas seems like it may be a widespread issue, at least in the US. It would be great to finally pin down the IDs and which nursery sells which cultivar under what name! Carol
