Looking for large print books

Hi folks,

I love to read, but really need books with large print - we have a reasonable selection at our local library (Braintree, MA), but am wondering where I could find more newer" maybe "best seller" type large type books (I am not legally blind, just have rather poor vision, so am not eligible to have free large type books!).

Sometimes I can get older out of print books (used) at Amazon.com., but I'm looking for free or really "cheap"!...LOL!

Anyhow I was hoping some of you avid readers could help me out!

There is a large print book club available, maybe through Doubleday. You could try them or Google. They would have new books and have been around quite a while. We subscribed to it for my mother several years ago.

I know about that book club, but as I hope not to have this vision problem forever, I have been looking towards libraries and used books ....So far Amazon.com has been my best bet, but I was wondering if all you other readers out there had any other ideas. I have done a Google search, but I'm wondering if anyone here has personal experience!
I know I can buy almost any book in large type, but I love to pass books on (it's just a thing with me - I want others to enjoy as well) and I do not know any one who reads these large print books.
Hoping to hear from more of you...

I posted the other day and it did not show up. I thanked you for the offer but posted that we made a fabulous find at Home Goods on Sunday!!! Two huge black mesh metal poppies!!! They are perfect to hang behind the red sofa and thought they were very different. They do have something similar on kohls.com but not as large. They must be 36" across, three dimentional and little fru fru metal centers. I did also thank you for your offer to borrow your photos. So thanks everyone and hoping I can learn to post pics again and will post one once she moves in and everything is in place. (I think I preview the post before and never submitted so thanks again for all of your offers of assistance.)

Anyone into reading large print books

My 79 year old father is scheduled for cataract surgery in September, but right now, the print in regular books is too small. He has pooh poohed large print, but my mother happened to find one on a "take one leave one" bookshelf in their adult community and he realized that yeah, this might be good! So I went on abebooks, searched for an author he had recently mentioned and put large-print in the keyword section, and found tons. I ordered two from a vendor who offers free shipping, and voila! Two books, less than $15. Late Father's Day present on its way. (He told us not to get him anything-they just downsized so "stuff" is not welcome.) Once he has read them, he can add them to the aforementioned book shelf, or donate them to the large on-site library. I'm sure large-print books would be welcome. You just need to know how to read the used book lingo-i.e. fine is better than very good, etc.

I like this last suggestion, with the picture above the sofa. I find that this lovely tree is not on its place between those two windows, kind of too high. I would also suggest to put them near the door, like behind the sofa as it stands in your pictures. I love canvas prints!!! Ordered mine https://www.frameshop.com.au/canvas-prints after a family photo shooting with our newborn and we placed them on the wall near stairs. This could also work as a suggestion, maybe you can move them away from the living room to another one.

Book lovers who cull...do you part with out of print "gems"?

@Bookwoman, good to know about the Amazon and abebooks prices. I usually donate my books but did manage to sell boxes of books on particular subjects for $10 or so ages ago on Craigslist. The last time I did a cull and tried that tactic though, no one was willing to pay for them, even though they were in great condition and fairly recent. In fact, most people didn't want the whole box, only certain titles. And second hand bookstores have all but disappeared around here! I adore books but they're getting burdensome. :( I need to practice the 'one in, one out' rule. Difficult to do when you buy 10 at a time. :P

you might try bookfinder.com
on the first page, there is a search engine. If you click on the "show more options" link, more categories open up. Put "large-print" under the keyword category.
I experimented by putting in Read, Miss as the author, no title, and large-print in the keyword and many titles popped up-the couple I opened were large-print editions, used, and at prices in the $5-$10 range.

You could try both E-bay and Half.com. Half.com doesn't have a specific search for Large Print, though you can search for the term. The link below goes to a search on E-bay for Miss Read in Large print. Just beware shipping and handling charges!

Wow,
Thank you all - I guess I have have hours of enjoyable reading ahead of me - and I do like books on tape somewhat, but there is nothing quite like having that book in your lap!

Elly, how do you feel about audiobooks? Your library allows you do download for free to your computer. You can download further to an mp3 player (not an iPod, unfortunately) I recently listened to Miss Read's Thrush Green that way.

The two systems the libraries use here are both Windows based. And there is that Apple - Windows deathmatch thing going on. Incompatible. Someone with more recent hacking skills than mine might get it to work. It was easier for me to go out and buy a Windows based mp3 player. BTW, Netlibrary has a special sign-in for British users. Something called Athens Users. Sounds like libraries there might have access - or a similar system.
