Hi there, I have a Childcare setting and would dearly love my children to observe the frog life cycle right in front of them. I have very recently read about the danger to wildlife/habitats through transporting these little creatures to different postcodes. I am in London SW18. We would observe them and when grown I'd love to set them free in a local pond. Can anyone help?

Cryogenics eh? Interesting stuff! I took spawn from two clumps, so I'm hoping I'll get at least some of it to hatch out. You'll be interested to know that I only found one tadpole in the container from last year. He's got tiny back legs but doesn't look like he's really using them yet, so maybe he was legless over Christmas. Weren't we all!! (Only kidding.) I did a filtering job to see what was in there and found loads of water hoglice. As you know, they eat all the detritus but there was quite a bit of what I presume is their faeces, so I used an old popsock to clean the last bit of water. Then I spent ages trying to rescue the hoglice without harming them, so I could put them back into the original container! Idiot or what? Big Kid

Hi, i havnt been on here since last spring, i dont think. I dont have any frogspawn in my pond, but there was some in a nearby ditch that was drying out, so i rescued it and put it in a bucket. A couple of the tadpoles have hatched, but seemed to fall strait to the bottom of the bucket, apparently dead! Having read more about them, i'm worried they could have been knocked off the jelly too early, if the bucket was disturbed. How long do they stay on the jelly before swimming free?

Lucky you!!! I went home to Liverpool for a week and when I got back there were four massive dollops of frogspawn in the pond. I rescued some and put it in a plastic pedalbin liner which has oxygenators in. Hopefully some will be safe from hungry jaws in the pond. I was watching out of the kitchen window a couple of days ago and I saw the plastic football on the pond (to keep ice from forming all over) bobbing about madly. Thought my frogs had taken up footie, but when I checked, two of them were playing happy families right beside it. They were obviously quite shy and wanted some privacy, so I tiptoed away and left them to it.... Big Kid
