What a great find on Boxing Day

Hi there. I'm a new member who has found your forum while looking for an answer about a pest that's attacking my 6 month old Euky Dwarf trees! Wow a forum dedicated to Aussie Natives is a dream come true.
I believe that the little lumps on my trees are gall? Caused by a wasp? I have also had trouble with something munching on the leaves?? I have removed the leaves with the lumps? Hoping that this will work. These little trees seem to be growing well though, however does anyone have a better idea for getting them to grow up without drooping? I have a stake either side of the tree with an old stocking wrapped in a figure of 8 round the trunk. The trees get a prevailing wind which seems to be making them slump. I want them to grow up and not straggly?? They don't seem to be getting strong trunks?

Welcome to GW. The trunks should strengthen over time (they are only 6mths)as long as they can move with the wind a bit. If they can't move they won't put down deep roots and will blow over or snap when older. Tying as you have should be ok. I put 3 stakes in a triangle around the plant and use twine (or whatever is handy) from one stake to the next in a web type pattern but don't actually tie the tree. Allows movement but prevents the tree from going too far. Shade will also make the trees tall and straggly.

What a wonderful day indeed! Having met three of the four of you, I can attest that you all got on fabulously and had a lot to talk about! The closest Penzey's to me is about an hour, so I usually drive 7 hours and go to the one in Oak Park IL! Go figure... Love TJ's and Whole Foods, too but again, they're along way from my home in the "boonies". But they are opening a new TJ's this coming summer/fall only 1/2 mile from my work, so I see lots of paychecks being spent there in the near future! Glad you all could get together, and really glad you get to enjoy some sunshine. Not sure when I'll see the sun again around here! LOL Linda

Well.... I guess I was delusional about both outdoor and indoor fans were running. They indeed, but I was not paying close attention to the fan outdoor when I first started noticing the air sent out was cold. When you asked me if the fans were running, I was having the impression of both fans working during the two good days. The thermostat triggers the fan when trying to work, yet the outdoor unit did not do anything (no compressor-kick-in sound). No sound at all... I checked to see what could be the solution online. I narrow down to tow possibilities, other than not getting power from the power company: bad transformer or contactor. They don't cost much, and I could probably replace a new one myself as the defrost control board I did. However, the problem is that the heat pump company is not longer existing. I was lucky enough to find a defrost board last year and this time, which two HVAC companies told me they could not find. I guess moving the top panel which the fan attached to affecting the wires or cords of the fan or for some reason the compressor was damaged... well....gotta call the pro, as you suggested. BUT....it's hard to find a real pro though.....I seemed trying almost every HVAC companies locally.... Anyhow..Klem1..thank so much for your help. You've done everything you could to help me. Hallngarden isn't this indeed wonderful? I've been doing a little inspiration research through out this. I google decluttering, home decor, organizing. I look at web results and image results. I look at online magazines for ideas. How can those ideas help me? Can I apply any of their methods? rethink my attitude? What does Peggy want out of the available space? Who or what owns this space around me? Do Dave and I own our space or does the clutter own it? Am I happy with the present state of things? Is this really such a big job or can I break it down to be more manageable. When I get into the feeling of I'm tired - it's my cuppa time. That's when I surf for ideas, read online positive attitudes or just simple take a break from it all. Kinda like my winter tune up diet - this year I've approached my annual winter tune up differently. It's not just a diet, I'm doing a lifestyle tune up in all areas of my life. Health eating habits, healthy mental habits (ongoing challenge) and healthier home living habits. I am working this winter on Peggy's mind, body and immediate surroundings. Being a horrid sleeper - bedroom hygiene is a must. By that I mean - decluttered, nice looking - somewhere that is mentally peaceful. It helps a great deal. The funny part is - it's contagious. When I get more organized at home, DH starts to organize his space, his computer area. I don't coax nor bother him - it just seems to rub off. I can't actually say 'at the end of all this' because it is a lifestyle change for me. It will never end because it's a beginning. It's liberating. How this journey affects each and everyone of us will be different. I sincerely hope this has been a very positive experience. Even if you are doing this and not posting - I wish you success and happiness from your efforts. Like I said, I love this place. You inspire me too! Cheers, Peggy

Thanks everyone! Savannaicus, it's a place run by volunteers, and it's a place where people can donate their plants if it's gotten to big or just don't want it. This goes for many different cactus, houseplants, and perennials. MrBlubs, they were fairly cheap I spent a total of $40 there. Which I don't think that's bad at all, I got plants that are fairly hard to find. All the money that the plant rescue makes goes to the local library of the town that It is in. But this place is also a source of many burglaries, they have gotten all the copper stripped, and took other things. But it's a great place I like to go every once in awhile and find good things. HI GreenGrub and many Welcomes to the Forums, yes sometimes you have to help them a bit during the windy and raining weather. I am guilty of staking our young trees if the rain and wind is too fierce ( Cyclone weather ) as I have lost so many through not staking them, but I have always taken the stakes out within a week. It is best to do the way GH descibes with the three stakes. If you tip prune you trees they will get bushier. Are you watering them too much ? as that would stop the roots from going down deeper and making the tree more stable, hope this helps a little ........Cheers..MM.

Thanks for your advice. I don't think they are getting too much water but they are growing very quickly at the moment and so have added another stage to make a triangle. Also, I have had to remove quite a few leaves as the little pimples on the leaves have turned into little grubs that eat the inner bit of the leaf and leave themselves in a paper thin covering of leaf. I can see the little white grub in the leaf. Have removed all affected leaves and will see how we go. Affected tree is looking a little stressed as well. They are only 5ft at the moment and it's other siblings 2 of them are going well with lots of new growth. This one however is taking it's time. Will give it some sea weed solution.
