i would recommend Rosigold. julie and rosigold are the smallest trees. rosigold will have a perfectly symmetrical upright canopy at 8ft. julie grows like a bush filling out nicely about 8 feet as well. both would be perfectly full grown in a 25 gallon container with a little pruning. julie is shy, but is an extraordinary mango and worth it IMO. Rosigold are very precocious, they give fruit a month earlier than almost every other variety. i think this may be beneficial to you as the fruit take less time from bloom to ripe. Nam Doc Mai is not a condo mango, it is a medium tree. i would grow it in at least a 45 gallon container and even then the trunk will become wider than the condo mangos and will be more top heavy. one reason Pine Island will not recommend Julie is because they stopped growing and propagating it after their trees died back of fungal problems. i personally know a dozen people growing Julie in south florida and while they do require minimal folier copper spraying to prevent anthracnose (black fungus), all of them enjoy their trees very much and prize the mangos they give. SPYKEs grove by me sells more Julies then any other variety fungus should not be a problem where you are.

Harry, Thanks for the help. I am going to skip the rosigold for now. I do worry about it finishing its ripening indoors or possibly blooming here inNov-Dec and having a hard time with the fruit holding. I know next year wont be such an issue. I think it wikk between glenn, carrie, and nam doc mai. I had said before that i didn't want the nam doc mai but I am warming up to it. The glenn turned me on after seeing pugs and reading the fruit description. Then there is carrie. How would you rank those three, and would pickering be any better then the three I listed? Carrie turns me on because it is a julie seedling. The description makes my mouth water but I have herad many great things about pickering. Maybe I should just wait a little and try them if possible but I just want to get them in my house and get them growing. My mentality is the sooner I get them the sooner they will fruit. After rereading some posts here I am afraid I will have to remove any fruit that julie holds. I say this now because it isn't activly blooming yet, it will be another story after the julie blooms. LOL!! Andrew

I reccommend mimosa nursery in east los angeles they a decent selection of mango varieties and rare fruit. Here is a link that might be useful: mimosanursery

Condo Mango -- unpruned -- is a 35' tree in the ground under suitable care in a dozen years. Many capable people here in San Diego county have tried growing them on balconies etc. and failed after a few years (dead plant). Growing them in a pot outdoors in late Spring and through the Summer as Citruslover1 would like to do is problematic unless you have free electricity (or surplus cash) for indoor lighting. I would expect you could get it to produce a few viable fruit for several years, but before it could get to the stage of producing a crop you would be fighting the size of the roots and trunk. Being completely rootbound in a 25 gallon pot after a few years is entirely possible.
