Australian Native Plants

Seeking Araucaria&AgathisSeed for exchange or purchase

I'm interested in securing any and all Araucaria seed (Bunya Bunya, Hoop, etc.) (other than A. araucana, which doesn't do well here) and Agathis seed.

Right now, I have Gingko and Cunninghamia lanceolata (China fir) seed to exchange. Soon I will have Taxodium distichum (Bald cypress) and T. ascendans (Pond cypress).

Are there seed companies in Australia where these can be purchased?

Exchanging seeds via mail between Australia and other countries is in breach of our quarentine laws.

If you are from outside Australia then I must ask you to withdraw your offer to exchange seeds with members residing in Australia.

Purchasing seeds from a reputable Australian seed merchant that meets all its quarentine obligations is your only option.

Warning to Australians. Taxodium distichum is a nasty drain-clogging weed. Gingkos seem to do no harm, but are easily available from any nursery here. I don't know the others, but do we really need any more exotic plants here?
Surely the days when cutting-edge gardening consisted of growing collections of foreign plants are over? It's all a bit old hat.
Growing our own natives is where the excitement is happening. There are so many of them that are not available in the more ordinary commercial nurseries, but are very rewarding to those who seek them out (and I'm told this applies in the US of A as well as here.)

You aren't kidding! Nothing grows at the North Pole!! :D Just watch Logee's plants, I used to order from them all the time and got some plant diseases on some succulents I had purchased and then they transferred to my Christmas cacti which I was bummed about, so I had to pitch them. To be fair Logee's said they would help if I wanted them to, but I didn't bother. They have excellent exotics, though some are pricey.

Thank you, amybabyboy3 and others. What some may not be aware of is that while it is most commonly grown as a tree in frost-free environments, it also grows quite well as a shrub in cooler climates such as zones 7b/8a, returning each year from roots. From your link I notice that it is growing quite nicely in Oneonta, AL, which is 50+ miles north of me. Tibouchina urvilleana (princess flower) and clerodendrum incisum (musical notes) are just two of many "zone 9+ semi-tropicals" that do quite well for me on the extreme northern range of zone 8a. I'm looking for a "division", "cutting", "seedling"....whatever, please - not people who quibble over simple semantics. Thanks!

Interesting - I hadn’t seen that product. I just ordered the airscape from them. I figured the pressure activated control would be useful for addressing the gas dryer and open fireplace, and I particularly liked the hot water coil and built-in control. Around here, heating the make-up air by gas-fired hot water is much cheaper than electric resistance. I haven’t found anything on the internet from anyone who actually bought one - just people who have considered it. With your Ruck system, the vent hood and the make up air both use the same model of blower?
