Interesting - but the picture is not enough. Can you tell us how big the flowers are, describe the plant and tell us something about where the plant grows?

Well, the plant has self-seeded in the lawn in the Adelaide Hills region.

Plant itself is about 0.5m high, fairly spindly looking. Flowers are about 4cm diameter and about 5-6cm long. Grows from a bulb-like tuber.

Leaves generate directly from the 'bulb'/ground with the separate flower stalk rising in the middle (also at ground level).

No, I'm not sure. I have absolutely no idea what this plant is. I've also spent about 17 hours running various descriptions of this mystery plant through Google, and these forums / this community seemed about the only ones that might be able to help me with this.

I think it is Gladiolus gueinzii

It certainly looks like a Gladiolus, most likely either a undulatus or a gueinzii - however now I know roughly what it is!

I have been looking for identification of another plant and came across this thread.
If you don't already know, you will find that it is
Gladiolus nana and if you do an AltaVista search you will find a photo on one of the hits.

Planted bulbs of that myself about 5 years years ago and each year that same flower pops up. Definately a form of species gladiolus.
