People plant Acacia baileyana up here but it's too tender to persist outdoors for more than so many years. There used to be one inside the conservatory at Wright Park in Tacoma, it may have been there for quite some time. Last time I saw it there were conks coming out of the trunk - not a good sign.

How long ago was the move to QLD now Mary-Anne? I was just up in Palm Cove last week. I have a Brisbane Golden Wattle in my garden, although I must say it's growing quite slowly. You're lucky to have a wattle that flowers more than once a year! I know about Acacia retinodes - 4 Seasons Wattle, but haven't seen it for sale in any nurseries... Serge

Ahriman I'd very cautious about the wattles you choose to grow in Spain. Australian wattles have a penchant to becoming environmental weeds when grown outside their natural range within Australia. Examples are Cootamundra Wattle, Sallow Wattle and Golden Wreath Wattle. I am sure you do not want to be responsible for unleashing an Australian native environmental weed in western Europe. Hello, Is the Eucalyptus plant outside or do you have it inside a heated area? If you have it outside, it could be the cold weather that is killing it. Ohio is a bit cold for most eucalyptus trees from what I can remember (although I think there are a few species that will grow in your USDA growing zones). If it's indoors, then I'm having the same problem with mine (gangly growth, and it's dying back, but I think the dying back might be due to a nutrient deficiency in my soil) I'm thinking that the gangly growth could be due to the higher indoor temperatures combined with low light levels of winter, although I could be wrong there. Considering the big difference in climate between Ohio and Australia, I wouldn't think there'd be any problem with eucalyptus becoming invasive there.
