Does anyone know where I can buy BT to control Fungus Gnats in the UK? I have called around at aquarium and fish shops, but they don't even have Mosquito Dunks!

I would expect B&Q to carry it, but they don't know what I am talking about, and I am not sure which brand is most common here.

Online will be a last resort - any good suppliers out there?

If you mean Bacillus thuringiensis rather than British Telecom, as far as I know it is only available to licensed major commercial users.

Thanks :) Not British Telecom...

I did find a few websites that sell "Fungus Gnat Off" and they claim that it is certified for non-commercial use. Of course they only sell it in commercial quantities! At least it has a 4 year shelf life! .

I've found that Scanmask works much better than any other product for gnats. Planet Natural has it.

thanks again, you are great, on the 3 sided bin idea, I didn't do that as thought? maybe wrongly that the material needs to be held in to build up heat??, I used the bungy rope on the forth side so I can take that side down to turn it, unfortunatly it has been prove that I am the world's weakest women, and I find that task imposible! so I thought if I build a second bin, I can sort of empty one into the other? and then back again, this I can manage as I can do it methodically, and for this year at least, should work, I will need more pallets I feel next year, but hopefully the pallet litter bug will abandon some more, if not I will have to actually start doing some phoning round businesses. I like the wheelie bin idea (thats what we call them in the UK?) and funnily enough saw them in BJ's yesterday when we joined and a first thought they where composters, $20, which kind of proves my point, I suppose, moulded plasic on wheels $20! (is BJ's costco ect, what a big box store are? I would call it a cash and carry! and writing that, even to me I suddenly think "cash and carry" what does that mean?? I digress) we have chipmonks, see them out and about but so far they have left the heap alone, even when it was a cold pile, I can only assume that the population is getting its food needs from the wood, or they just don't like the fact it is normally a bit stinky by the time I transfer it to the heap, I have a small closed bin the the kitchen, and I normally empty it every 3 days or so, so its gone abit smelly by that point, I am sure I am going to empty more frequently as the summer progresses, which is why I loved the wheelie bin idea.

Patty cakes, Do you think that med. grey small lumbar pillows on the leather chairs would get 'lost'? I saw 2 on sale at JCP yesterday and almost got them but then thought that they might be too dark. IKEA has some nice charcoal throws but I really think that I'd like to try my hand at sewing a few. I get what you mean about not adding a 'color' to the rm. and I agree. I have checked out grey curtains but I have this weird fanatical thing about all of my curtains matching if they can be seen from another rm.! Will check out Parma's sexy rm! Jacy - That's exactly how RP looks w/ my white trim! I have a sickness you know. A paint sickness. I admit that I have a sample of PD. In my house it got a bit too purpley for me. There's an excellent episode of Find Your Style where they did a rm. in Hot Spring Stones (1 up from PD) and the accent wall PD. The accent colors were Silver Sage. It was beautiful! I saved that episode for a very longtime. There was also a woman who used to post here who did her bedroom exactly the way your thinking. Her sign on was Girlwithaspirin. Maybe you can do a google search and a pic will come up somewhere. Caroleoh - Yep - that's the rm. that was BT! It's such a small room that there are only so many angles that I can get pics of. I highly recommend BT!!!! Truly if I'd hadn't begun painting the rest of my downstairs such neutral but rich colors I would never have parted ways w/ BT but I just felt that it wasn't working w/ the whole overall concept that I was going w/ and that I really, really like alot. I can't wait to post finished pics of the downstairs. And I mean finished pics! 3 more pairs of curtains to buy (3 more to glue pom-poms on too), get DH to hang the DR chandelier - and maybe, just maybe, if my decorating piggy bank has enough money - get my big black and white print for the hallway.

How this crook builds a 6 [or 5] story 40,000 sq ft mansion in CA, were you can get S&D order by unpermitted replacement of a single facia board is beyond me. I will give you a hint, he did it the same way most every house gets built. He paid someone to do it... Let's not forget that, as a developer of luxury mansions in Bel Air, Hadid has built several larger mansions in Bel Air. So he is used to dealing with the approval process in Bel Air. We should also note that he was convicted of a crime for it, so the outrage seems a bit misplaced to me. In fact, I really don't understand the point of the thread, it seems to be intended to denigrate architects, but serves better as a warning about rushing to judgment. If Warren Buffet instructed me how to invest his money, then I would be pretty upset for getting the blame when he lost said money. Furthermore, I suspect Hadid is largely just being made an example of. Finding ways around bright line regulation is largely a national past time in America.

The fact that it is not easily available rather suggests that it is not considered necessary for fungus gnats here. If the compost is well ventilated and not over watered gnats should not be a problem. Even if you do get some I don't know that they are a problem. I've only come across BT being recommended for caterpillars.

As to the mosquito dunks - I don't know how long you've been over here but you'll find out that in most parts of the UK (not counting the famous Scottish midges) mosquitoes are not much of a problem. Plus we do not(yet) have the various nasty diseases which they can carry. But then there aren't that many evenings when you bee warm enough outdoors to find out!

Suggests to me more one or the other of the following:
1. It isn't considered safe for Joe Public to use, or more likely . .
2. 99.999% of Joe Public has either never heard of it, or if they have, couldn't give a toss about using bio control rather than deadly poisons, so it doesn't sell well enough to be worth sellers stocking it.

Sorry, that's not true. Soil dry enough to kill off fungus gnat larvae is too dry to support plant life, other than perhaps some cacti. And it doesn't help letting just the top get dry, as the gnats also breed in the bottom of pots, getting in through the drainage holes.

OK Resin. From your posts elsewhere I realise that you are way more knowledgeable than I am. I was just writing based on my own experience. I have raised plants in my greenhouse for a very long time and have never had a problem with fungus gnats and have never needed to treat them in any manner. Maybe I've just been lucky. As to BT not being considered safe or not having been heard of, it is mentioned in my ancient (1981 repr. 1992) copy of Joy Larkcom's Vegetable Garden Displayed published by the RHS. I believe that BT is rather expensive and also that there is some uncertainty as to exactly how safe it is. There seems to be a lot of literature about for agricultural use but not domestic.
