lilly pillies and frost

Hi all

I have a future hedge of various lilly pillies, ie they are quite young, only about 50 -60 cm tall. They went through their first winter in my garden (as did I), and a couple of frosts. A couple of the plants new growth died off, ie the leaves went a brown colour, which I thought at the time could have been a disease so foolishly (perhaps) cut them off. We had a couple more cold nights since, but they have all survived and are now covered in new shoots, which I hope will continue throughout the warmer months. As I am brand new to gardening, (but have rapidly expanded my knowledge and passion), I fear I may have planted an unsuitable plant. Will it be too cold here for these plants? I am in upper north shore of Sydney, quite warm in summer, but am halfway down a bush gully (pretty) but shady and quite chilly in winter compared to even the next street.

cheers

Andrea
