Gardening in the UK

Allright you Brits! I have been visiting the UK a few times now, and have seen the most beautiful Yuccas with nice, long trunks growing in gardens over there. They seem to be ok with winter & snow. But what kind of Yuccas are they? And if any of you have loads of pups from them, would you be interrested in sending me some??

Also, do you protect them in the smow? (I haven't seen any form of protecting while visiting). How old are the plants before they can survive winter?

I live in Denmark, and our weather is pretty much like in Newcastle.

Any hints, tips, tricks and pups would be appreciated!

Probably Cordyline australis. Sorry, not hardy in Danmark - I've even seen several killed here (in the Newcastle area!) this winter, and it is milder here than Danmark.

Is this is a Yucca gloriosa or a Yucca aloifolia?

Yucca aloifolia has a basal rosette of leaves, and when it blooms, the bloom stem grows real tall above the leaves at the bottom. The leaves of Y. gloriosa grow all over like in your picture, so I guess that's what it is. There are many types of yucca, however, so it might be another type. I can only rule out Y. aloifolia, which is our native type. Sherry

Where are you located? With heat sun and water it should come back. Not enough water to rot it however. The key is whether the growth tip got munched or just the side leaves. If it was well established it may even shoot up new shoots from the base.

I have one that's been doing great for me, I've planted it on a bit of a mound. It used to be planted closer to the street and when I moved the main plant I guess I lef some root behind and that piece is now growing into a decent plant.
