Unknown shrub, anyone able to ID?

This shrub has been growing all over a friend's block near Kinglake that got burnt in the fires last year, originally we thought it might be a type of melaleuca however once it flowered it seemed unlikely. The biggest ones are now more than 1.5m tall and easily 1m wide, they look shrubby rather than tree-like. The only branches we can get a good look at are small, but the bark seems quite papery. Over summer there were some small (maximum ~1cm wide) pink flowers with 5 petals as shown in the photos.

If someone's able to tell us what they are it'd be much appreciated! Thanks.

Might be Pink Velvet Bush - Lasiopetalum behrii.

If so they shouldn't grow much bigger.

I don't know what this plant is, but I live in Nillumbik and I'm fascinated by the stages of recovery in the flora following the bushfires. This is a beautiful shrub and I'm sure a number of new plants have germinated on your friend's property that probably weren't there before. Thanks for sharing and if your friend has more to show, I'm sure there would be others who'd like to see... GW

The bloom is of the Rose of Sharon, Hybiscus syriaca. Some of the rose of sharon foliage can be spotted farther back in the picture. The foliage in front crowding it is perhaps a buckthorn (?) though not Rhamnus cathartica. FataMorgana

I had found pictures of ninebark in my searches but it didn't quite look like it I didn't think. This one has not yet flowered at any point in the year. I do remember it was fairly expensive (or I thought it was) - like originally $50 and I waited for it to get down to $20 at the end of the year. It seems to want to grow in an arching manner instead of upright which is fine, but it seems a bit odd considering it has almost a woody stalk and leaves that resemble maple leaves.

There certainly are lots of species popping up that were never there before - including what looks like a grevillea species that's just started to appear. There's a guy from the council who's been helping people with advice on revegetation & I've heard he's gotten really excited by some of the plants that are appearing. He's got a blog with pictures of some of what he's found in his work - I'll attach the link for anyone who's interested.

It is Salvadora oleoides,we have it here and it has 4 colors.Red,pink,white and Violet.To check just break a small branch of this plant and you will see white color fluid comming out-dont forget to wash your hands after this test.
