The dormancy can last as long as march- the recommended dormancy period is from october to then. Turning brown and growing mini traps can be how your plants go dormant. I have quite a few different cultivars and each one is just a little different. Some turn black and look dead(but aren't) and then others like my Super G basically just stop growing and don't die back. It is my understanding that if your plants are dividing rather than growing larger traps then it means they are getting too much water. I let the top of my soil media dry before I refill the trays. No idea when yours will flower but they flower here now if kept out of dormancy.

Hi, I'm not clear on what you used to water your plants. The proper type of water is distilled water because that has been distilled to get pure water and leave the minerals and salts behind. It is not chlorine that is bad for carnivorous plants, it is the dissolved minerals like calcium, magnesium, etc. So boiling ordinary tap water isn't any good, you want to have pure water like distilled water, rainwater, or melted snow. If you in fact used tap water and just boiled it, well, that's not going to harm them once, but you should make sure you use distilled water or captured rainwater in the future. (I use rainwater or melted snow... right now I'm trying to get as much clean snow as I can, and melt it and save the water for summer -- got about 20 gallons right now, which is pretty much all I have room to store. But sometimes my outdoor plants get watered by accident by our lawn sprinkler, which is the bad tapwater - but I don't worry about it if it's only a few times per year.) Flooding things is okay, sometimes if we get some real rainy weather in the summer, my flytraps get completely submerged for several days in the aquarium I grow them in - doesn't seem to bother them at all. Better wet than dry. I would recommend planting each plant in a different pot when you can. I use pure long-fiber sphagnum moss, but most people here seem to prefer a mix of sphagnum, sand and perlite. I just tranplanted the flytraps in one of my aquariums last night... so here's a pic to give you an idea about what you can expect in the way of top growth and roots on a healthy mature flytrap, plan your pot size accordingly: You can grow flytraps fairly crowded, like shown below, as they don't seem to mind it. But if just starting off, I'd give them plenty of room to get them nice and healthy. Hope that helps. -Don

It just mean that your plant is vegetatively reproducing, it can happen anytime during its growing period. When that happens, I usually leave it there. The tiny plants are so small, they can easily die when their roots are damage. I do separate them during mid summer.

Don't use tap water on these plants. They need either distilled or rainwater. These plants can't tolerate the dissolved minerals that are in regular tap water. I overwinter mine in my garage after they've gone dormant. Keeping them just damp enough to keep them from drying out. Flytraps need lots of sunlight. Since your plant is new, I would slowly acclimate it to full sunlight. Since yours is growing in sphagnum moss, watch out that it doesn't completely dry out. Their roots basically grow straight down, and the ends of them need to be kept moist. I don't like growing mine in sphagnum moss. Instead, I prefer using a 50/50 blend of silica sand and peat moss. Not any sand will do, it has to be silica sand. They sell large bags of silica sand at Home Depot for about $6 bucks. It's usually marked as "pool filter" sand, located out in the garden center. And never use Miracle Gro peat moss, because it contains fertilizer. Fertilizers will kill flytraps. Never ever fertilize them, and never repot them using ordinary potting soil. It would also kill your flytraps. I also love using those self-watering pots with the water reservoir at the bottom of the pot. That way, the tips of the roots can soak in water while the rest of the plant remains drier. Much like their natural habitat. I know I'm saying a lot of "Don't do this, don't do that..." but if you want to grow carnivorous plants, you have to understand their basic needs. Once you get the hang of it, growing carnivorous plants can be a very rewarding experience. These are definitely some of my favorite plants. It never gets old catching and feeding them houseflies. :)
