Agree it is just cool growing temps that cause it but it does no harm to them. The plants green up quickly when planted outside and the weather warms. If you want to warm just the growing area a bit without heating the whole house just enclose the plant area a bit with a plastic drop cloth and let the lights provide a bit of heat to them. That means leaving the lights on a night and off some during the day. Get a timer. ;) Dave

How did you divide it? You can't separate the roots--it just doesn't work. Taking cuttings from the growing tips does, and does not harm the plant. I have had the same hanging geraniums for about 10 years. Not the same plant but cuttings from them. In any case I don't think your problem was the cuttings, but the soil you had the plant in. Your geranium had leaf spot disease. Your cutting may be infected too so mix up a solution of 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 quart of water add a drop of hand soap--just 1 drop. Too much soap will burn the leaves, but you need it to make the soda stick. Baking soda is a fungicide. Put this in a spray bottle, shake and spray the rooted cutting every 4 days until you are sure it is not infected. Whenever you take cuttings from any peli it is important to have everything as clean as possible. Thanks! I think it's the foam and the soil. I found a thread on the container gardening board that mentioned some major problems with the walmart soil which is what I repotted with. So... I'm going to get some lighter soil.. tear our all that foam and repot and take a few cuttings to be sure the plant is preserved one way or another! LOL Thanks a bunch and I'll let you know how my plant in a week or so! As for over fertilized.. I don't think so even though I do feed it weekly bc I tried to fertilize to see if it helped with the leaf dropping. So that problem started long before I started fertilizing at all. I think it's bad soil that doesn't drain well combined with foam stuck in around the roots. Well! I have work to do! Thanks again! Michelle
