The only one you have to worry about is the 26-28 spot ladybird they are orange/yellow and tend to feed on the upper surfaces of leaves the leaves may become brown amd papery, removal by hand is suggested

Do not confuse these pests with the common spotted ladybird which has only 18 spots and eat aphids and other small plant pests.... Cheers..MM.

Hi
I had the same problem! The 26-28 spotted ones are bad, it has taken us 3 seasons to finally get them under control! Thankfully we have many of the 'good' lady bugs in both yellow and red, which are attracted to the powdery mildew on leaves. If they are affecting your plants growth I would suggest culling them, or else do as I did move them to a friends garden who needed them.
Happy gardening

Hi Kenny. You are so sweet. Thank you. I don't want to put you out at all. Have you checked this rose out on Jackson and Perkins page? It looks like Rosemary described. Since J & P is so close to me I will probably buy it from them. They are having a sale right now and I'll show you the link below. Now I'm curious about what the rose is that Tantau has shown there. Oh the rose madness continues. Must be this warm November we are having that makes me feel like going home and digging in the garden. Absolutely Lesser Goldfinch. By the way, I don't know how much time you spent looking at warbler pics, but you would have saved yourself that effort by noting the bill shape: warblers have much thinner bills. Bill shape and size is often a good clue to point you in the right direction; bright colour patterns you'll likely remember without trying, but the bill really needs to be looked at (unless we're talking about a toucan or spoonbill etc). Just a friendly hint. -O-

I use Irfanview to resize mine but for one picture go to tinypic.com and click the browse button to find the picture on your computer. After you select it click the Resize button and nake it no more than 800 x 600. Upload it and click the triangle in the box headed html for websites to show the code. Copy the code and paste it in your gardenweb post and the picture will show up when you preview your post.

Can you say "FEEDING FRENZY" in the sun. LOL. I always drop three times more than I plan. BUT many of the individual plants that I have bought in the past have seeded out in my field and have been care free. Right now the Texas prairie parsley is showing a great deal of germination. I thought that it was a goner after it died because I could not get any of the seed to sprout. IT took several years, but now the ones that I through out in the field in disgust are replicating quite nicely in a staggered pattern during the last couple of wet winters.. I expect to have a great showing. I like the Fall sale because it is the best time to plant perennials here. Mostly , I am doing seeds from friends and my exsorbitant excusion there has settled down a bit. As the plant sale gets closer, they will post a species list. I go through it and print the printable form out and have my things circled that I am interested in. They do also have a pre sale event giving members first dibs on Friday. In the back there is a NPSOT booth that always has some oddities. I got white silphium, amsonia cilliata and escarpment Black cherry from them....Not all on the same year. They do not post their haves on the site with the plant list. The Natural Gardener and Barton Springs Nursery has many of the same plants for less. I went to the sale and then to Natural Gardener one year and they gave me 10 or 15% off since I was wearing a LBJWFC sticker on my shirt. AAAH, Christmas for the plant obsessed.

The yellow & black ladybird is definately a goodie, they are attracted to powdery mildew because they feed on it and it's only the yellow & black ones that do eat it, most other ladybirds are predatory, except the 26-28 spot ones, they attack plants in the cucurbitacea family, that is your zucchinis, cucumbers & pumpkins etc, If you are having a problem with powdery mildew, which is caused by a fungi, there are a number of things you can do to try and prevent it from spreading, don't crowd your plants, make sure they have good air circulation around them, always water them in the morning rather than evening, and try not to wet the leaves, give the plant/plants a regular seaweed extract spray ( leaves and all with this, a morning application) and I have read that a milk mix (1 part milk to 9 parts water) regularly sprayed on young plants will help prevent it, although I haven't tried this myself, but if your plants are mature and already badly infected it maybe too late for this, I do know that the powdery mildew does not affect the fruit but it does affect the plants growth often shortening zucchini's life, but hey, the weather is beautiful so get some more seeds in, zucchinis grow and produce so fast, what are you waiting for!!!!!!!!Kindest regards, Annette.
