Sam, Clement, Resin and bboy, thank you very much for your answers. All three P. menziesii should be of almost exactly the same age. Is it a possibility that genetic variances between them caused one's bark to mature faster? It is quite likely that the third one is P. pinaster since that tree used to be planted on small scale for forestry around where I live. Thank you for the compliment, Sam. :) Taxus baccata is a conifer which is wild growing here anywhere; presumably because of its extensive use for hedges. Close to the one I found were numerous "normal" (single coloured, dark green ones) so this one catched my eye immediately. You guys are not particularly helpful. Or nice. My best guess, and this is only a guess, would be that it's a maple tree. In the second picture, to the right of your ear, there's a scale of bark separating from the top side that looks thin (which can make climbing hard). When a scale of maple bark separates it can be relatively thin like that, whereas other common trees, oak or walnut, usually have thicker, bark that doesn't scale as much. On the flip side, it doesn't look as scaly as I would expect from say cherry. Without more info I'd guess maple.

I know what you mean about the growth. They do change how green and fuzzy they are based on how much water they are getting. I have not yet learned how to tell if it needs more water. I have heard about using orchid fertilizer on bromiliads with roots and soil. They have similar wild growing conditions from what I understand. I have no idea if it would work on tillandsias though. The amounts and ratios might be wrong. If it is good to use ( I don't know if it is) I would suggest that you try even less then half strength, just to be safe. I use some Tillandsias fertilizer that I got on Amazon. I am not an expert on Tillandsias and am still learning with my own. If some one knows better than me please chime in. L.G.

Thanks so much for your reply! Someone on another forum was able to ID it as Euphorbia drupifera, and looking at the pics that's definitely it. The leuconeura is very similar to it though - that's a neat plant! Thanks again! :)
