The Tortoise always wins...you go!!! Seriously, what kind of a question is "why would you want to?" on a forum of HOW-TO? ...play nice. My reply: Yeah, you have roots!!!!!! I've gathered tiny trees this spring from our 22 acres of forest floor. I may have just turned 50 but the kid in me hopes I never want to stop experimenting. I gathered a gnarly, already crooked-trunked pine of some sort, one that's more 'perfect tiny tree' sized, 3 tiny cedar and a couple of larger beech. As I see it my options are Dish Garden, terrarium or just transplant closer to the front yard so I can enjoy them. Which I just did for the 2 beech trees. Play a little every day...it's good for you!

I think Tim and Welby have good advice, but depending on where you are growing them you may want to try some of the non hardy varieties like Rhododendron simisii, which are they ones you see in green houses and florists shops. They are usually cheaper than the 'outdoor variety' and easier to care for since and in the winter they can be kept at 41-54 degrees F, if you don't have a cold green house or somewhere to over winter. If you find that Azaleas are too hard or expensive you can always try some varieties of Camellia Japonica. I like to think of them as the 'poor man's Azaleas'. Especially nice are the 'Ezo Nishiki', 'Betty Sheffield Supreme' and the 'Jury's Yellow' varieties.

i can or could agree with you on some of the list, if you don't take care of your plants, i do have gold flame honeysuckle. i have it on an arch. every fall i clip it back to about 6" or so, and in the spring it comes right back up and just as beautiful as ever!! when we first bought our house, it had over a foot of dead vines under the live ones, i had to cut all that back, it was a real pain in the butt!!! now it looks great though, also on that arch is my orange trumpet vine for the hummers. and that one is very thick!! but it also has to be cut back. if you don't do this it all just dies for the next years growth anyhow. so i don't know why people wouldn't want to cut it back?? and severely!!! and the honeysuckle smells awesome!!! :') ~Medo

Gardener, YES EPPING that was it, halloween howler... gosh that bring back memories. They had a powder puff race for ladies in which our buddy let me run his car (that he had hauled all the way from Nantucket) I was so nervous that I would wreck it before he ever got to race! lol Crystal, I would love to get together with you and Copper that would be so fun!
