Hi, I have a scant number of seeds of Chinese Purple Bell Vine (Rhodochiton atrosanguineum). Since I have few and they are tiny, too, I want to be careful in sowing them. I mean, don't feel I have enough seeds for experimentation. If anyone has successfully germinated these, I'd be grateful for any advice and suggestions. Thanks, cranebill

Hi there= I've tried these many times, and had some successes and some years failures. The failures were the first several years, when trying to start them indoors in a room, under a single bulb grow light. My best successes were in a large sunny greenhouse. And, my very best success(99%) was when I'd given up on a flat I tried to start indoors, and set it outside under a tree in Spring. The erratic temperatures of spring, and of day and night had those puppies sprouted in less than a week! (I'm sure the improved air circualtion helped, too). If your indoor seedlings tend to get leggy, it may be difficult for you to have great success with these, indoors. They need a lot of light, and are very susceptible to damping off disease(too much moisture, not enough light). I've lost many flats to this. I ordered some PLANTS from Select seeds this year(they sell the seeds, too. It is not much more for a healthy plant, than it is for a packet of seeds, and you are GUARANTEED a plant. I can't tell you how many times I've purchased these as seeds, and in the end, not ended up with even one single plant. I also purchased some cobaea scandens plants. They can be fussy to start, too. Don't get me wrong, I love to start from seeds, but this is one that I'd actually recommend just buying. They are only 5.95, which is not much more than a packet of seeds.
