Common. Normal for this time of year..:-) Sure you can keep it growing....Alot slower than in full sun, on sunny hot summer days.. It will constantly push out new growth from the top, unless you withdraw light all together. In fact if you used no lights at all, and just stuck them in a window, dependent on the winters light only, they would still grow a tad bit. The thing is, you will never get them to be fully leafed out, unless you provide 14 hours or more of full strength hot light and very warm conditions.. perfect conditions.. Hard to mimick in winter, especially in Canada. By nature they want to drop leaves at this time of year, especially in the fashion as you describe. Why even in Texas they are dropping leaves as you described.. My local nursery owner has a few, loosing leaves like crazy, like yours, in full sun, and in a hot greenhouse anyway..Don't fret.:-) Not to worry. They will not die, nor will they stop "growing" if you providing them some light. They will almost stop pushing leaves, and maybe not at all, if you withdraw all light and warmth. Your major concern should be your "watering" habits, and "root rot". Be careful, especially if your soil is not porous and free draining... At this time of year, your soil should not be wet more than a couple days at a time if in dormancy stage.. If so, you will loose them unless you are keeping them in active growth under warm lights and a warm enviroment..;-) Dormancy does not mean it is entirely asleep as some of our outdoor plants, such as perenials, it just means it is growing at a much SLOWER pace..Believe or not, they will still look for a drink, even in dormancy stage.. Just keep it alive, and the full strentgh of spring sun will bring it back to full leaves, and possibly flowers too..;-) Sorry about spelling. How weird. Don't think I have ever seen anything quite like it, almost a variegated leaf as one might see on a philadrendon. Or a tiny teetotaler leaf miner perhaps. :) I honestly don't think it is a virus. The plants appear too healthy otherwise and even the affected leaflets appear healthy otherwise. And at least from the photo it only appears to be the terminal leaflets on the branch, right? That makes me suspect some sort of nutrient deficient issue at leaf development time or something genetically related to the variety. Though I have grown Sweet 100s and never noted it. But this is all just a guess on my part. I'd be inclined to isolate them from the other plants and just monitor them. If all the new growth appears normal then I wouldn't worry about it overly much. Maybe Carolyn or Darrell might have some better ideas. I'd be interested to hear their opinions. Dave

The white stuff are whiteflies and their eggs, we have an infestation problem with them in South Florida. Whiteflies are from the tropics and can carry a disease called tomato yellow leaf curl virus. Leafhoppers also carries it. Once your plant is infected with leaf curl virus, the plant will almost stop growing and not produce anything, there is no cure. I'm not saying whiteflies definitely carry the virus, they may not, but it is something I've very wary of. I was not able to grow tomatoes for the most of 2015 because of them. Whiteflies like warm temperature so there are much less of them during the cooler months. They prefer shade, warmth, and protection from wind. They are attracted to nightshade plants, the virus infect nightshade plants such as tomato, pepper, goji, potato, basil. But they are attracted to a wider variety of plants while not infecting them, like the "bidens" plants (common lawn "weed"), brassica crops, banana and other type of leaves that may provide good shades. This season growing tomatoes in spring with the cooler temperature I have less problem with them. Also with mulching and keeping the plants healthy reduces my pests issues. I notice whiteflies like to attack the lower sick leaves, so I pruned them and maintain a good airflow in the bottom.

You could try and prune it to a smaller size maybe if you wish to keep it in a smaller pot, my key lime is quite small and it went through several flowering cycles this year. Citrus are heavy feeders so providing enough nutrients is key. I use granular citrus fertilizer on a monthly basis just topdress the soil, and when my plants are fruiting and flowering I use a water soluble fertilizer weekly. They also make water soluble citrus nutrients which can be diluted and sprayed on the leaves. I prefer to apply smaller amounts of nutrients more often. Also I recommend using organic fertilizer, non organic fertilizer will lead to salt build up in the pot. The picture is the kinds of fertilizer I use.
