ID Seed Pod Please

I found a seed pod that has spines like small gumnuts & is about 2" wide & smells of eucalypt, & has a thick stem (unlike liquidamber) the tree is like a small eucalypt also,

I'm skeptical about the velvety remark. He said slightly when asked that specific question and didn't include it in his original description. Could be some mold growth giving that appearance I would ask him to check again but he may not want to be grilled and I want to be amicable.

rose of sharon pods are thicker walled and have round seeds inside the chambers. it looks more like an aristolochia pod to me ... pictures are not generally used for identification purposes anyway ... it was my first guess. floral - there are 500 species of pipevine ... maybe one opens from the other end ... i don't know? maybe you could post some more photos of the plant to help with the ID?
