That's an interesting article. It seems to be a bit complicated to get fruit. I've got half a Lychee I started from seed last summer, though it will take a while before they are old enough to flower. But, having the plants in a pot, should give us a better chance to keep them under 68 at the right time. For me, that would probably mean pruning around the start of November, if I shifted the calendar to have a late April bloom (when I could have it outside and under 68, without freezing). I wonder if it would work to prune around the start of April, hoping to get a flush in late April (3 weeks later)?

Thanks for the advice, puglvr1. Do you have any of the other fruit trees I mentioned? Makok sapodilla, Clementine or Ponkan mandarin, Emperor lychee? My interest in Lancetilla or Neelum is mainly to extend the mango season by a month or two. But you and some others on this forum (in other discussion threads) have commented on Lancetilla's mediocre taste, and that has made me hesitate. No point in planting one, waiting years and then getting disappointed. The tendency to split could be due to our wet summers. The fruit probably get too much water just before they ripen, causing the split. Your idea of a Pickering is good, and I know you have some very nice Cogshalls. My hesitation is solely because they would put all the mangoes in a 2-month period. Fruit overload, though my neighbors and friends could be very happy indeed. My wife tells me there is no point in having a longer season with mangoes one doesn't enjoy, and I guess I will give in to her wisdom! That's a lovely Glenn in your photo, and so full of blooms. From the picture, I would have placed its height at 10 to 12 feet. And it makes me think I could grow one too. Wonder if Jene's Tropicals grows its Glenns on different root-stock, or whether that particular bit of info - that Glenns get to be 45 - 50 feet tall -- is even accurate. Something to ask them when I visit them next. They do have most of the trees I would like to get, and the idea of one-stop shopping, along with delivery for $25, has its appeal. Where we have lived in St. Petersburg these past 8 years, we haven't had a freeze. Couple of really chilly winters, including one when most of my hibiscuses dropped many leaves and some small branches died. But no tree or shrub has died due to the cold, and I hope it stays that way.

Slopfrog...I'm baffled by the spots on your Lychee tree also. Maybe you can take a few of the affected leaves and take it to a reputable nursery prefably someone that sells tropical fruit trees and they can diagnose it and give you the right type of product to use? I would be careful and not spray the newly formed very sensitive leaves. It does kind of look like some type of fungus to me too...Best of luck! The tree looks like it going to be just fine...once you give it some shelter from the wind and treat the spotted leaves, I have NO doubt it will take off for you! The first one looks like something is chewing on the leafs, caterpillar, leaf cutters etc... If its inside, they must be hiding in the soil during the day (they do that) the brown tips, often mean a water problem, maybe it got just a bit too dry one day? That mango leaf, looks like "scale" or white-fly I would look VERY close underneath the leaves of all the plants, for very small bugs. im no expert, im sure someone else can chime in with more experience than me.
