I fractured the bone (on a too-long walk, believe it or not) last year so the dr. put me on crutches to see if it would heal, and it did, but it continued to hurt when I walked in spite of months of PT exercises. I ignored that pain hoping it was muscle or would go away in time. Apparently it was not a good strong mend because I took a slight stumble and re-fractured it a couple of weeks ago. So I'm back on crutches again (boo hoo). Apparently I'm not able to heal the bone well enough to be a good strong bone. I have osteoporosis too. The orthopedist told me that it is possible I will need a rod inserted into the bone. If we decide to insert a rod, it is better to do on a leg that has healed as much as possible rather than one that is still fractured. There is no cast or screws and it to me doesn't look like a big fracture on the x-ray. It's not clear across, just a bit into the callus of the previous healing. Muscle damage? I don't think so. I have researched a little on the internet about the rod procedure, but honestly I would not look forward to that. I just want my life back, able to walk, garden, etc. I'm still able to work (part-time), but it sure is difficult on crutches. Thanks for your interest.

I can confirm Tony's comments. I had a largish plant that our pool guy simply cut off one day, because it was overhanging the pool and dropping the occasional leaf. He left behind the bulb with a stem about 1 metre long. The top was discarded onto the compost heap. After I finished ranting I decided to try planting the top. It grew quite well. Also the remaining stem. It sprouted three new branches and the end result was even better than before, so I concluded the pool guy knew more about Beucanias than me. Grant

Right^. there are myriad, unknown causes for such minor aberrations, but if you're asking if there's something to be done, the answer is no. And especially in trees which have been transplanted-remember, that's not the typical case, even if it is what we tend to do-there are multiple opportunities along the way for such things to occur. Trees grow via a method that most folks never consider. Very basically, a new tree grows over the old one (under the bark, of course) each growing season. That's why trees have growth rings-you're actually seeing the new deposition of wood surrounding the older ones-and this means that such insignificant little sweeps and bends are slightly less noticeable each and every year that the tree grows. Truly not an important matter, these minor "imperfections". +oM

Hmmmm...well my first thought is whether the place you bought it will just take it back. It's too bad you didn't notice it before you bought it. The debarking looks rather new. If the injury just occurred you might not see an immediate response from the plant but there is interference in the 'bark' layer transferring moisture and nutrients to the upper plant that could be serious enough to lead to it's eventual demise. I have used rose pruning wax (if you can find it anymore) and even the paper type human bandage tape to repair and even splint a broken cane. Interested to see what others suggest.
