There are two simple observations of unusual formation on leaves: 1. Large, irregular brown spots on surface of camellia leaves, possible facing the sun. It is cause by sun burn. 2. Very dark brown or black formation at leave rim area and tip of the new growth. It is chemical burn, caused by too much fertilizer.

Ken, although spots are brown, are they semi-translucent? Like weaved cloth? lol As you stated, 'IF' there is a problem, it could be a bacterial. There's too many types...to be honest, I'm unfamiliar with them. Some of my plants, 'mostly Dracaenas' get similar spots. I usually remove the leaf, or if on the edge, trim. My Dracaena, 'Song of India,' is outdoors. Last week, temperatures dipped in the 30's. I noticed several brown spots yesterday. Whatever, I hope your plant pulls through. As I stated earlier, other than the few spots, your Corn Plants looks terrific. Healthy foliage. Good luck.

Jacqueline, for our plant, we determined it was from soggy roots. The camellia is unfortunately planted in an area with poor soil drainage. When it rains significantly, or if we overwater, new leaves seem to grow with these spots. The spots are harmless, just not very pretty. Hope this helps!

I would expect a recently planted camellia to loose some foliage as part of transplant shock, especially if the soil has not been mulched, it is almost the start of summer and the soil does not look that "moist", Make sure that it is planted slightly above the surrounding soil. While it can handle full sun, it may have a hard time if it was planted almost at the start of summer. Make sure the soil is kept as evenly moist as you can. Water if the soil feels dry. I could not enlarge either picture enough to see leaves individually. I assume that browning of a leaf is due to water issues or dropping of old foliage (happens in May-June). Not sure if you have brown spots though. A close up of a single leaf with those spots would be useful. Give it 2-4" of mulch up to the drip line or beyond. Water the soil (never the leaves) with about 1 to 1.5 gallons now that it is getting warm or hot. No need to fertilize if it still has those round fertilizer pellets. In that case, fertilize next year in Spring. Where are you (city, state, USDA Zone)?
