Does somebody know what caused this?

Hi there I was wondering if somebody could help me understand what has caused parts of my leaves to become transparent? Some of the plants appear to have been eaten at from the inside, is this related?
Is it a bug, disease or lack of nutrients?

I think Julia in NY wins the prize for naming my NOID. I received an email reminder from Ebay today about a daylily I had saved, and at the bottom of it were several other listings for plants. One had a photo of a daylily that looked just like mine! It was Crimson Pirate. So I googled images of it, and man! It is my daylily. My only wonderment is its dormant habit. Mine not only comes back and blooms year after year, but it even keeps a few leaves all winter. Stella d'Oro never bloomed after the year I planted it. So I'm curious if others in Zone 9 have success with any dormants and if others in my zone grow this wonderful old daylily from 1955. Is it possible that the breeder did not know that its habit in a mild climate was more like a semi-evergreen? I'm also curious about this breeder, H. E. Sass, according to Tinker's. Leak in shower and dont know what is causing

Charlie, What is the construction of this shower? Is it tiled, floor and ceiling? Is it a prefab fiberglass or acrylic unit? It is a shower in a tub? If so, what type of tub...cast iron, or fiberglass/acrylic? Since you have access to the shower body, does the shower body remain dry when the shower is running? Leaks typically come from the parts that move...in this case the valve assembly or if an acrylic/fg base, the drain. Since it's only 4 years old, I presume the unit has ceramic disc valves...they sometimes can leak and can be repaired by snugging the stem up just a bit. Depends on the type. Stem leaks can leak all the time, or just when the unit is not in use. If the shower head was recently replace, it's possible the threads were crossed, or no teflon tape or dope was used, and it's a slow leak through the threading. That type of leak would only occur when the unit is in use. A drain leak in an acrylic base may only leak when the user is standing in the shower and the base is flexing. Yes, that's leaf miner. The best means of control is by systemic insecticide, which is taken up by the plant through the leaves and ingested by the bug. However, if the infestation is not severe, removal of the infected leaves might be all that is necessary. As systemic pesticides are frowned upon these days, you could try a pyrethrum, probably not as affective but it might work.

A little more research into this suggests that it could also be the leafeating ladybird. To quote: 'They usually feed on the underside of the leaves and skeletonise rounded patches. The beetles are oval in outline, about 6 mm long.... they are orange-yellow with 26 to 28 spots'. I'd suggest you go check under the leaves and in the leaf-litter on the ground and if you do see them they should have 26 to 28 spots, not 18 spots. If you see an 18 spot one it's a 'goodie'; they feed on aphids and other plant pests.
