wildflower, I am sorry that I have not gotten to respond to your post before now, but I have been trying to figure out how to post a picture or least a link to a picture in my post. Anyway, what you have posted a picture of is: the classic signs of broad and/or cyclamen mite damage. You notice how even the very small leaves at the tip are a brownish color and the plant is no longer growing at that tip? That is what the broad/cyclamen mites will do to a brug that they have infested. I am going to attempt to post a picture of one of my brugs that is suffering from the broad/cyclamen mite damage. The tips of my brug look almost identical to yours. Everyone has given you excellent advise from treating with heat, the polymers and the horticultural oils. I have been using the ultra fine oils to try to keep these critters under control. But it is a war in which they always come back. I spray with the oils at a heavier than recommended rate, it knocks them back for awhile, but they always come back. Now, if you want to treat a cutting with oil to totally wipe them out you can. You just have to dip or spray the cutting with the oil at full strength. Since a cutting normally does not have any leaves on it you don't have to worry about the oil damaging the leaves. And with the oil undiluted it will kill the mites and all their stages of development. But this is not an option when trying to treat a full grown plant. There are products out there to treat these mites like Forbid, Avid, etc., but they are very expensive and the mites will and are developing a resistance to these products. That is why I am so excited about the polymer products that Jim has discovered will work on mites. I will be getting a gallon of Anti-Stress 2000 to spray on my brugs and all other plants that will be coming in the house for the winter. These mites are not the same as spider mites that make a webbing. They are a different family of mites, they are in the tarsonemidae or tarsonemid family. There are also some predatory mites that will help control the tarsonemid mites and spider mites too. Well, I am going to try to include or link to my picture. Here is a link that might be useful:

Thanks for all the kind comments and help. I just love this one. When I first bought it, it did not have colors like this at all. So it is all taking me by suprise. Charlie, What is the construction of this shower? Is it tiled, floor and ceiling? Is it a prefab fiberglass or acrylic unit? It is a shower in a tub? If so, what type of tub...cast iron, or fiberglass/acrylic? Since you have access to the shower body, does the shower body remain dry when the shower is running? Leaks typically come from the parts that move...in this case the valve assembly or if an acrylic/fg base, the drain. Since it's only 4 years old, I presume the unit has ceramic disc valves...they sometimes can leak and can be repaired by snugging the stem up just a bit. Depends on the type. Stem leaks can leak all the time, or just when the unit is not in use. If the shower head was recently replace, it's possible the threads were crossed, or no teflon tape or dope was used, and it's a slow leak through the threading. That type of leak would only occur when the unit is in use. A drain leak in an acrylic base may only leak when the user is standing in the shower and the base is flexing. There are a couple other options if it's tiled. Mongo

I also bookmark direct links, in other words I made an html document of active links that I keep on my desktop. These links are what I would call the "front door." When the direct links to gardenweb forums I have bookmarked started showing up blocked with the "advice" screen, I took a more circuitous route, by going to http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums  and clicking on the specific forums listed there. That is what I would call the "back door." I have hesitated from altering my permanent html document by changing the urls, out of a superstitious fear, or maybe out of the knowledge that it might well be a waste of time, since I do believe that gardenweb's days are numbered. If GW does become cannibalized entirely by Houzz, I hope to see some of my fellow gardeners on one of the other forums. "Following" seems redundant to me. I only frequent a handful of gardening forums, and I'll see any comments there in threads that interest me. It also seems vaguely invasive to me, both for the follower and the followee, sort of like one of facebook's innovations.
