HAVE: Tree Dahlia Cane Cutting

I have cut down my Tree Dahlia and now have Tree Dahlia Cane Cuttings. The tree dahlia is the single flower (pinkish/purplish) in colour and mine grew up to 2 metres in height when it is left to its own devices.

I was able to grow a number of these cuttings in my garden just by laying them horizontal in some compost. They just grew from there.

For those who are interested, please send a (very) padded prepaid (around $4.50) envelope. Even better is a tube or a box, as I have had my fair share of crushed items through envelope mail.

Hmm.. while last winter almost did not happen - the lowest temperatures we had were probably 15F, once every couple of years we do get a winter with some February nights below 0F. So I wouldn't say Eden is cane hardy where I live, at least not on those cold years I think. I've only read on forums that some people manage to grow it here but for how long - I don't know. So you are saying I will be growing this rose for a while and then one spring it just won't return. You are probably right.. It's not likely to ever get large. Yes, I have been tracking shadow cast by trees, there is also a garage there which casts shade. I'd probably plant it 2-3' from the canopies then and support it with a simple obelisk rather than worry about a pergola there :-) I actually thought duct-taping the canes wouldn't work, I assumed it wouldn't heal since it's hard wood. Unfortunately, I have no experience growing roses at all. I think I'll try it, though, and see what happens. If it's only a matter of time before the rose dies in the winter, it doesn't matter much anyway, plus there won't be much of the heavyweight growth above the crack. Thank you so much Poochella :) One major drawback for the plant material (except the seeds) is that it requires special packaging and phytosanitary certificates involvement with customs (our customs are ruthless along with plenty of agonizing paperwork). Seeds do arrive safely here, I will write them an email, lets see what they have to say about it.. Regards, Izhar BTW I haven't seen you sharing your beauties here for this season..

Don't be in a hurry to cut off the live stems, as they can often produce a second or even a third flush of flowers, as mine have been doing for the last week or two in inner-western Sydney. And if you want to get maxmum height next year (some growers boast 6 m or more), I would do as Sparaxis suggests and wait till the foliage browns, so that photosynthesis can continue to build up food storage in the tubers.

Would you please email me your postal address, to send the box/tube to? (Email it to my private email address, not to this forum, as I can receive your messages but can't reply to them privately.)

I see from your GardenWeb page that you're looking for plumerias. I have a couple of pale pink/white plumeria cuttings that have been drying out for several weeks and are ready to plant out. They're nothing spectacular, but they are a bit different from the common yellow/white one. If you like, I can post these to you in a tube/box, paying postage one way; and you could post the dahlia cutting/s back to me in the same tube/box, paying postage from your end.

Let me know what you'd prefer, as I'm perfectly happy with either option.
