Hello Popi. If it can be found in its native country in boggy places then the good old UK should suit it fine in that respect!! Since I put it outside it has had plenty of wind and rain and seems to be doing ok!! I was just so reluctant to damage it any more after it went through that period of being almost dead. When I pruned it back the branches they were just dry/dead twigs, it went right back to a stump of around 3inches high, ready to go to the tip on our next visit, it got put aside as the weather was against any gardening activities. It was later that year in the autumn that I noticed it had sprouted....after the torrential downpours of our so called summer of 2007....perhaps that was what it was short of...a good loooong cool drink! It really does seem to be a real survivor. Yes, we do consider ourselves very fortunate to have visited Oz twice so far. We are totally blown away by the place. Another trip is planned, hopefully for 2009, but we are having a dilemma on where exactly to visit this time!!! Cheers, Gill.

Playboy, Hot Cocoa, Oklahoma and Lavaglut are gone from my garden. When I started having vole problems I took the opportunity to dig them up and give them to a friend. Golden Celebration and Night Owl both have been terrible with BS, despite several early-season sprayings with Bayer. They're really too big to move so they remain. But only until I get ahold of the vole problem. (Guess I'm kinda letting the voles have them, sigh!) The roses I kept are mostly in pots, and I believe I can grow them all no-spray once the BS magnets are gone. I'm really happy with the health of Sunshine Daydream, Tamora, Prairie Harvest, Lions Rose, the Fairy, Darlow's Enigma, Blush Noisette, Vanity, Mystic Beauty, Belinda's Dream, and Easter Basket. I'll also keep Lyda Rose and Lavender Dream; they do occasionally shed a lot of leaves but always recover. I ordered mostly Kordes roses this year which I plan to grow in pots: Savannah, Eliza, Pink Enchantment, Peach Drift, Dark Desire. Sure hope they're healthy!

So even though the nursery has suggested Purple Hopseed to me over and over, my landscape guy says they'll freeze...in our coldest winters, but still never know when that will be. Just yesterday I saw Ligustrum Texanum in a tree form (never seen that before, they must have just gotten it in) which also gets taller than the shrub form...the tag says 10-15'. This would eliminate the issue of it not being tall enough (in shrub form...the only form I had seen until now...). Make a long story short, if I use ZhuZhou, would it look ok next to the Ligustrum? I hate not being able to see it in person. Heck, can't find the ZhuZhou anywhere. I really want something in tree form in part of our backyard, but I don't want Photina and it sounds like Purple Hopseed isn't such a good idea...

Only grow The Endeavour, so can't compare. Jubilee Celebration's caught my interest repeatedly, but I've yet to encounter it in person. In the 2016 USA Austin catalog, The Endeavour's been moved to the Supplementary English Roses list, page 56, which seems to precede dropping a rose from availability, while Jubilee Celebration remains with the general offerings on page 29. Since a full page photo of massed Jubilee Celebration appears opposite The Endeavour listing, I'm best guessing The Endeavour is scheduled soon to be "superceded" by JC. It may be one of the roses Austin's requiring be dropped as a condition of continued licensing. My original was purchased locally as a grafted & potted Weeks' rose some years (8?) ago. The graft showed signs of punking out two years back, following a typical lifespan of Huey grafted roses in this garden. Unwilling to do without TE, ordered a gallon own root then from Heirloom, who no longer carries it on their website. (Dug & deep potted the failing grafted to encourage own rooting in hopes of saving the scion & luckily that worked. Grows equally well own root here.) So if you're interested in The Endeavour, you may want to get one while the getting's good. http://www.davidaustinroses.com/american/showrose.asp?showr=4342  I'm continually wowed by The Endeavour, rating the fragrance an 8 out of 10. Rapid repeat bloom continuity, each flower lasting well with multiple shadings that morph enchantingly from bud to petal fall, as if a new rose each day. The blooms open on the salmon side of coral pink, with tints of amber & apricot that increase as the flower expands & then becomes overlaid with lavender, unique & exquisite. Tend to be larger here than HMF's average, easily 4-5", though the bush has only grown 3.5' tall & wide without pruning. Short, thin thorns, sparsely spaced, so good near a walkway where it doesn't snag passersby. Powerful fragrance to my nose, like a fine French perfume, rosey with notes of narcissus & sandalwood & hints of gingery cardamom. Nose deep in a blossom, feel suspended in time. Parentage listed as seedling x seedling, suspect Aloha '49 somewhere in its background. Rarely spots on lower leaves only & when those are removed, new ones grow back cleanly in this no spray hot & humid garden. Appreciates a bit more in the groceries department, loves the heat of Summer yet continues to bloom in the cool days & cold nights of Autumn, petals unfazed by frequent rain (though nod when soaked), grows in a graceful leafy bush form. Semi glossy leaves, not the matte that HMF reports.
