Borers in trees ?

Having a problem with borers in poinciana and ceder trees dose anyone have a cure other than cutting them down ??

Hi Paddy, about the only thing you can do is cut of the offending bits and reseal them with wound paint/ plastic water base paint and give them a little fetiliser and a good drink if possible. Bores just love Poncianna and cedar may have Tip moth chewing on it as well.Good luck. Peter r

I tried injection with Lebaycid on one and Rogor on the other of two borer infested Wattles. Both poisons seemed to do the job. The method I used was to drill a series of 6ml holes just into the sapwood at 3" intervals around the trunk at a slight angle downwards towards the centre of the trunk. Then using a syringe I filled each hole with the systemic bug killer. HTH teddy,J

Ha, I am sorry to hear about your traumatic experience with elms, Ken! I live in Oklahoma City (zone 7a) with a small yard. Looking for a medium sized shade tree that grows moderately quickly (already have a slow-growing ginkgo, which I love). I am also a sucker for dappled light. Emerald Ash Borer Treatment Near Roses... OK or not?

The synthetic derivatives of pyrethrin, "pyrethroids", are not usually applied as soil drenches. The most common soil drench treatment for ash borers, and supposedly the most effective one, is imidacloprid (Merit). Merit is the insecticide in the Bayer All-In-One soil drench product for roses. Based on comments here, the All-In-One product doesn't help much with the japanese beetles, but it shouldn't hurt your roses. Hoovb's advice makes good sense. Most interesting to me was "...it did not prove a causal link. The reason for the association is yet to be determined." In urban areas, trees and branches (usually older, rotting trees) fall on people. This could be as significant a health issue as the above article topic. I specifically avoid a tree at SE 48th and Raymond. But people park their cars under it all the time.

Hi Bernard I have used it 50/50 and straight from the bottle. There seemed to be no difference in the results so in future I will use the 50/50 mix (50%cheaper)lol. ATB teddy,J
