Itilton; Don't know if it's what you're dealing with, but do a search on "Shot Hole Borer" and see if anything there looks like what you have going on. Apparently they attack weakened trees. I'm so worried about borers that I trunk drench my peach and cherry trees probably more than I should - but man I hate the thought of dealing with borers. Good luck!!

was it applied according to label specs??? have you called the 800 number on the product and discussed the issue with them??? when properly applied.. presuming it is labeled for borers ... it is supposed to kill the borers .... do you have any proof that they are not dead ...???? that is not to say that the product will heal the tree.. damage done by what may be long gone borers ... may continue for years .... at some point .. the investment i further treatments [which might be a fools errand regardless].. are going to be more than what you paid for the tree .... it may be time to think about chucking the whole.. and getting rid of it ... and starting over ... i will speculate that it came with the bugs... but you found out after the warranty was long gone.. if you decide to replace it.. you may not want to trust the source of the first ... i would call bayer .. and discuss with them ... i have had nothing but success with the product.. when dealing with scale .... good luck ken

Ha, I am sorry to hear about your traumatic experience with elms, Ken! I live in Oklahoma City (zone 7a) with a small yard. Looking for a medium sized shade tree that grows moderately quickly (already have a slow-growing ginkgo, which I love). I am also a sucker for dappled light. The synthetic derivatives of pyrethrin, "pyrethroids", are not usually applied as soil drenches. The most common soil drench treatment for ash borers, and supposedly the most effective one, is imidacloprid (Merit). Merit is the insecticide in the Bayer All-In-One soil drench product for roses. Based on comments here, the All-In-One product doesn't help much with the japanese beetles, but it shouldn't hurt your roses. Hoovb's advice makes good sense.
