Thanks all. I was extremely excited harvesting my potatoes and garlic being that it was the first time growing them! Kristy and Pat, you need to put a sign up where you plant your potatoes, LOL! I planted them in a black box so there's no way I would not find them. Lenette, you can't imagine how often I think about your baby chicks and have to stop myself from going to get some. Of course, I know they don't carry the Marans (want, want, want), but I can always get the Rhode Island Reds, and the Ameraucanas. I can't have roosters so don't hatch eggs. Before I went on vacation, someone was offering Maran hens, but I couldn't get them then :-( Diane, I grow cardoon for the looks, but hope Karyn reads your post. She has asked me several times if I harvest the stems. Marcie, oh I bet you were upset when you found your order! I was gone out of state and found one of my small iochromas pretty dried up. I cut a bit off yesterday and saw some green so maybe it will survive. It is a red one that I got at a plant sale and has not bloomed yet

Beth, I have one that is about 3 years old I cut it back about twice a year and it grows back within a few months, stronger and prettier.I usually prune it late winter and again in fall.

Here's the latest: It looks like the situation has been resolved. I've been told that the hybridizer is growing some of the seedlings, that two have bloomed and they look like P. 'Mission Dolores' (P. parritae x antioquiensis). So apparently the pollen somehow came from P. antioquiensis, which is growing in the hybridizer's garden. Interestingly, as far as I can tell the seedlings resemble P. parritae in many ways, and some features, such as the petiole glands, differ significantly from P. 'Mission Dolores'. Perhaps there is variability in the cross, or maybe these change as the plant matures. I thought it was important to figure out whether the seedlings were new P. parritae clones. In this case simply waiting for the flower to bloom could have led to the loss of many of the clones if people didn't think think another hybrid was worth the time, space and effort. Plus there would have been less reason to aggressively propagate the seedlings. It was surprising that the answer to their identity came so quickly, and of course the more information the better.

Pull the shoots out of the ground, unless you want volunteers. A bit of yellowing leaves at the bottom of the plant is no cause for concern, as they are the oldest leaves. I water my passiflora deeply once a week when it is hot, less if it is cool or raining. They are pretty low maintenance, minus suckers. In the spring I dilute 1 tablespoon of epsom salt to 1 gallon of water and fertilize ONCE.You don't have to do this. Don't over-fertilize, there is no need. You don't have to remove the empty pods, if no fruit forms (and Caerulea fruit is not tasty), the pods will fall off with the flower. Since Caerulea is not self-fertile, you don't have to worry about seeds. In order to make it fruit, you would need 2 different Caerulea, not clones/cuttings. Also, if you want TASTY fruit, get an edulis, some are self-fertile but Caerulea pollen is also okay to pollinate an edulis with. Hope this helps and Happy Gardening!
