The wee bit of Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate) added to water and dumped on or near the plant really does very little to help with this Calcium deficiency, even though it may be caused by too little Magnesium in the soil (or because there is too much Magnesium) since plants need some Magnesium to properly utilize the Calcium. The best way to prevent Blosson End Rot is to start the growing season with a good, healthy soil well endowed with organic matter so the soil has balanced nutrients and will be evenly moist, but well drained. Mulching the soil will also aid in soil moisture retention, so you may not need to water daily which can create more problems because a too wet soil will also keep the plants from uptaking needed nutrients.

If those tomatoes had Blossom End Rot or were munched on by thingys such as the Tomato Fruitworm or something similar there will be no problem with simply burying, or composting them since they will then add necessary organic matter to the soil. With some of the plant diseases there are large numbers of people that will tell you that you cannot compost, or bury any part of any plant so infected, but there is ample evidence available that shows that in a good, healthy soil burying diseased plants can help create immunities to those plant diseases. Simply burying the tomatoes in your garden soil would not be composting, but it would be feeding your soil.

You say tomato TIPS, so are you talking about an area of black at the blossom end of the fruits? If so, then the problem is BER ( blossom end rot) which can be a real problem with container grown tomato plants, as well as with those grown inground. If it's BER please go to the top of this first page, click on the FAQ link and scroll down until you come to the article about BER. You can also go to Google IMAGES and type in something like tomato BER or spell it out and take a look at some pictures to see what I'm talkiong about. Carolyn

Your Romas all show BER (blossom end rot) and there are literally 100's of discussions here as well as a FAQ all about it. A search will pull them all up for you or you can click on the blue FAQ button at the top of the front page. All of those fruit showing BER should have been removed from the vine while still green and tossed. That way the plant would have been less stressed and grown out of the condition much more quickly and switched to normal production. If there are others still on the plant just pull and toss them. Romas and other paste varieties, as is often discussed here, are much more prone to BER than other types. In wet spring BER in paste varieties is almost to be expected. But it goes away as the weather stabilizes and the plant matures. You other photo is just common cat-facing or an injury scar and just happens now and then. It too is no serious concern.
