Its also called sweet betsey bush. If you post on here someone might have it. Thats how i got mine. It did take me a while to find it. Its an old fashioned plant. Its also called carolina allspice and its a protected plant here in NC. hope that helps.

Well then, Chrissy, lucky you to live so close to the NG! Bop on down there and get some 8-2-4 and maybe some seaweed for the micronutrients ~ bet that'll have your tree blooming in no time (again, provided it wasn't seed grown). The compost and alfalfa have some N, but likely not enough. Feathermeal, bloodmeal and corn meal all have high N as well, but I think the 8-2-4 has more (that's what John told us to recommend anyway). And while you're there, look for me if you have time. I'm Linda and I'm in the herb section Tues-Thurs. I'd love to meet you! :) Isn't that wild, Petzold? I didn't know all that much about citrus before John gave us the crash course, so would have offered the same advice as you otherwise. I'm a vegetable gardener mostly along with a few flowers, so too much N means few flowers and fruit to me, too. Citrus apparently are just the odd ducks. Basilette, any well draining potting soil will work. That's the other thing about citrus ~ they do NOT like wet feet and will get foot rot if they stay that way too long. So get some pea gravel, decomposed granite or expanded shale to mix in with your potting soil when you repot (pea gravel in the bottom is also good to give weight to the pot so your tree doesn't blow over). And this is a great time of year to repot anything. If you do it now, just as warm spring temps are starting (though you wouldn't know it this morning *sigh*), it'll happily put on loads of new roots and settle into the new pot/soil nicely. I'll be repotting a lot of my plants in the greenhouse soon, right before I put them outside for the summer. AAMOF, I'll be repotting my own Key Lime this next week or two, so I'll be mixing in liberal amounts of turkey manure along with using that 8-2-4 in the hopes that I'll get lots of blooms again, too.

As I feared, this wasn't a very productive month for me, but I did accomplish a few of my goals. 1. Label bear paw quilt. (Such a small task, but not done.) 2. Bind and label larger penguin top. (Bound, not labeled.) 3. Work toward finishing the older Lover's Knot tops. (Not even touched!) 4. Continue working on DS#1's tee shirt quilt. (Have all of the shirts cut apart.) 5. Make at least one crumb block a day. (YES) 6. Finish table toppers for DS#2 and DIL's nightstands. (No) 7. Make and send three May lotto blocks. (YES) I joined a once-a-month sewing group at my LQS this month. We sew from 10:00 to 4:00, with lots of chatting and snacks along the way. To have something different to work on, I pulled out a Thangles buck-a-block sampler, purchased at least two years ago and never started. It will become part of my June list. I made quite a bit of progress on it, prepping the pieces Monday and Tuesday and starting to assemble the blocks when the group met on Wednesday. My late April/early May wintersowing was very successful, so I've been tending hundreds of seedlings for several weeks. We have a freeze warning tonight, so I've tucked old blankets around the containers. They should be tough enough to handle the cold, but I don't have the nerve to gamble on the tender annuals when they're almost large enough to transplant. It's fun to follow everyone's monthly progress. Keep up the good work!! Bonnie

sometimes they are sticklers at the post office, different people have different rules unfortunately! the post office is not very consistent in their charges, and it sort of depends on who you get when you go into the PO. yeah, for a small trade i usually tape the seeds down on an index card or other card stock, recycled box or whatever. then i can get them under the 3/4 inch thickness rule and mail it as a "flat" or "large envelope". many PO people though will try to charge you the parcel rate, even when you do not have to pay the extra fee. i do hope you received my envelope without incident or postage due? just checking, i know it was packed correctly as a "flat", but i also know how the post office can be. and i just got your note that said the post office said your envelopes were too lumpy.
