Hi all, thanks for the input. I have only been spraying organic and very early in the morning. I followed Sylvia's advice previously mentioned on the forums - a dilluted spinosad/serenade mixture. I've got some sort of little brown bug trying to make the Lima stalk their home, and all the rain brought on either bacterial wilt or rust. So I've been trying to combat that. I've been trying to find specific culture information for the types I planted - McCaslan pole bean and Fordhook Lima bean - got some good info on the Fordhook that says they do need a cooler temp. I also shook the plants like crazy, thinking maybe I could swish some pollen around. Something worked, because wouldn't you know, I had three pods start the day after I posted this lol. I was not able to find too much on the McCaslin about temps though and no pods on the vines yet. Thanks for the Floridata link, I completely forgot that site in my round of searches. I had found some posts here and there that said beans needed pollinators, which was what made me nervous. So now I feel better seeing that they don't. I am going to try gardengimp's water garden suggestion. I'll be heading for some local nurseries this weekend. Thanks for the link, very helpful. I only have to hand pollinate the melons now, but as I start to plant more veggies out, I don't think I'll have the time to help everyone along. Thank you so much everyone! Chrissy

Well, if it came off a passionvine, it is definitely passionfruit. I can't say though why it is hollow unless what was inside dried up as the fruit became dried out. The fruit is usually picked when it becomes dark purple and a little wrinkled -- that is, if it is a Passiflora Edulis vine. It is possible for other vines to produce fruit though if cross-pollinated or self-pollinated, but there are some sterile hybrids as well.

You know, of the two, the smaller one probably does get slightly less sun. I think it's still plenty enough to count as a "full sun" location though. It's very green and blooms nicely, it's just a lot slower than the big one. I decided to keep them where they are and try to shear them a bit next year to keep them in line. I can't move them to the backyard out of fear that the dogs will snack on them, but they're too pretty to get rid of just yet. Plus, even as I was pruning them I had beautiful butterflies and bees flying all around the trimmings and I felt really bad for ruining their snack. I ended up pruning them nicely and planting some dianthus in between for some winter color (it bloomed in that spot one year even as the rest of our yard was covered in ice). Oddly enough, the larger plant had spots that looked like either the branches had touched the ground and rooted, or roots had shot up branches of their own separate from the main plant. I ripped up one of these sections and planted it behind my runt plant hoping it would fill the bed a bit better next year. If it ends up being a failed experiment, it wont be any skin off my back.
