If it's the 'florist's cyclamen' (C. persicum) then just push the large seeds into the sufface of peaty potting mix and keep them in the dark (exclude light). If it's C. hederifolium or other species then expose to light. Strange isn't it!
Thanks,Lomatia. I do not know what they are!! I germinated a packet of mixed seeds and have never bothered identifying them!!! I was not a bought plant, but that means nothing. Ah well, they all germinated in the dark, so will just try that when the seed pods are ripe.
I bought a few throw outs from Kmart and kept waiting for the seed pods to open. It seemed to take forever. When they did open (under the guidance of my propogation book) I put the seed in warm water with a drop of mild detergent. After 24 hours I then washed the seed and put seed into seed raising mix. I was overwhelmed with the strike rate. My feeble first attempt resulted in 16 plants but with the mild detergent I netted about 80. The polystyrene boxes are useful for laying out the seed. Good luck.
Thanks, sebd. :)Yours was prob the florist's strain. I see a pod on one of them too also from cheapies, a nice white one :))). I have put bits into the basket to catch the seeds from my others. I'm new to saving my own seeds.
