Ladies a good book to read on a Sunday Afternoon

There is a great new book out there for you ladies to read this winter (or on the beach this summer). The Emancipation of Denny G. by Carole M. Olsen has become a local favorite among Boomer gals.

The book is about Denny Gunderson, a teenager who is pregnant back in 1965. Everyone blames her soley for the pregnancy and she is whisked away to a home for unwed women; to hide "this problem" away from society.

Denny has her baby and goes into a deep depression and resents the father of her baby, his family and her sister. She heads on a downward spiril that many girls of this era did when they were in this situation. Society labeled them and they never recovered from the shame. But Denny does recover and it leads to a dynamic story of a woman who's strong belief in God, rids the ghosts of her past and leads to a successful and happy life.

I like this book because I grew up back then & found it so unfair how girls were treated in situations like this. Also, I loved the character Denny, she was so "real" and somewhat sarcastic which brought humor and a great story into play.Though this was fiction I learned a lot about womens rights which Denny gets involved with

The book is available through amazon.com & its website emancipationdennyg.com. It will be in Barnes & Noble within the next couple of weeks and on their webstore also.
