Just remember Halina it is a big tree they can grow 50-70ft it could have a 45ft tap root. I would not even plant a tree that grew that tall so close to the house I am on 3/4 acre and I dont think this block is big enough for a tree that tall.

The Powton is a specially bred and select form of Paulownia kawakami (Paulownia) a native of China.

They do not like their feet wet so resent over watering... I know it has a very pretty flower, best to ring up the nursery where you bought it from and ask advice there..Have a look at the link below lots of info there...

Have decided to get an arborist or expert to check it out as the nursery from which I purchased the tree has new owners, who no longer stock them. I checked the tree again and it is further away from both properties than I thought but is probably still too close for comfort. The article was useful as I was overwatering the tree in the mistaken belief that that would restrict the roots from wandering.

My neighbour in Marysville has a thicket of Pauwlownia trees and I find them an absolute menace. Large leaves smothering the garden, suckering and branches forever falling off and to make matters worse, because they are so brittle, trunks coming down in storms. This is a plant that should be seasonally coppiced so that it can be controlled and the flowers can be enjoyed at a lower level. I would definitely not have it near a house or boundary line.

I have been trying to kill my Powton for almost 12 months, even Tree and Blackberry Killer won't do it. It has kept growing back and each growth is larger and faster than the last. Suckers everywhere - which also keep coming back. Good Luck!

I have a Sapphire Dragon in my garden located in Victoria, Australia. It is 5 year old and it is almost as tall as my single storey house. I witness a few suckers around the tree line say about 3 to 4m away from the tree trunk. Please let me know how to eradicate the tree as I am getting very nervous of its superfast growth. Is there a way to kill the tree or if I do it myself will that create more problems down the track as in harder to remove or kill the tree?

Please assist or share your experience with me if you happen to know the tree.

I realise this thread is 4 years old but is there anything that does get rid of this tree - I cut down 3 of them, ground down the stumps and still it grows! Any advice would be nice!! Thanks
