G'day all and hows everyone been keeping :)??..Need to ask a wee question on if anyone is experiencing a late Autumn or strange growing season??...

Need to convince myself it aint me lol thats at fault with this years plantout...

Everything seems to be growing rather stranger than normal..ie; seedlings that dont want to grow past their first set of leaves , even my parsely in their seed trays dont want to grow further than mybe three inches tall..

Tomato plants gave a great burst of life without too many fruit set from flower and more yellowing of leaves than normal??..

Some plants are four foot or so tall and only just setting flowers??..

Could this be me or forces at work from the dark side lol??...

Mindya weve had ten weeks or so of constant strong winds too??..

We are having an extended summer down here Peter. No rain at all this Autumn so far and sunny days consistently. Definetly the dark side:-)

Volvo, it's definitely not you! It's the season.

We've had a very strange Autumn. Extremely dry. Everything is bone-dry, just plain dust and dirt.

The veggie garden is not doing much. Everything is stunted. We need rain!!!

That one's not from my garden, it's from HCG. They are pretty pricey, but they have a great reputation. I've had mixed results with overwintering sunset hyssops, but had a few survivors for several years that I lost during that awful winter - was it 2 years ago? They really demand good drainage, so I plant them on a small hill. I buy at least one every year, different varieties, looking for one that will overwinter again. Bluestone has a couple of different ones, much less expensive than HCG.

@Ian Stewart: Zone 6 Western Kentucky, USA One of the issues with 'Autumn Damask' (R. damascena bifera) is that the rose sold by that name is often something else entirely, and so public reports on its performance vary wildly. Often people have purchased something like 'Kazanlik' labeled as 'Autumn Damask' and then they find that it doesn't repeat at all, and so they report that it doesn't rebloom for them. This clouds matters badly. I am not familiar with the plant High Country Roses sells under this name, but they make it pretty clear in their description: "double flowers in June followed by a light repeat bloom in fall". So the truth about it is that no matter how well established the specimen, it is by no means generous with a late season rebloom — it's really just a few extra blooms here and there in the fall, once the weather starts to cool. That mirrors my experience with it as well. 'Rose de Rescht' is a much more reliable repeater in that family of roses, and its fragrance is just as superb.

While I have yet to see it self seed anywhere here, the vine itself grows like a thug as well. Partial shade does not seem to diminish flowering at all. I had a monster that tried to takeover my Shoreline garden, even after a hard prune every winter.

We were lucky enough to have a bit of rain last weekend but that's been & gone & it's back to sunshine & mild weather.
I have only just lit my fire & still have tomatoes ripening in the garden, all be it slowly!
Autumn is my favourite time of year in Australia so I'm not really complaining but a bit more rain would be nice :-)

G'day good peoples and here i was sweatin and worrying me noggin off thinking what it is ive been doing wrong this year with my Tomatos??..
Would you believe that halfe my crop has only three to four Tommy's on them now..
Have new lot of seedlings in trays and as soon as they are ready to plant out i will be pulling halfe the others out and replacing with new lot see what transpires??..

Also only just got a wee cold snap last night which should have happened maybe two three weeks ago..Thunderstorms which are very rare for this time of the year and bucketload of hail down south????..
really strange start to Autumn i can tell yez..

I blame George Bush. The weather hasn't been right since he moved into the oval office. Our own Johnnie isn't helping either!

Hmmm, I did actually read somewhere that the US has the control of the weather as one of its long term scientific goals!

I noticed a report on local news the other night that had images of almonds in blossom already, a spring flush bought about by this unseasonallly warm autumn (my own almond has yet to shed its leaves). My Shahoot mulberry has decided to produce another crop of fruit instead of dropping its leaves...bizarre!

Not so funny Mudlark, if the US could control the weather they most certainly would. But, then again, global warming is a given, and no government, anywhere, is doing diddly squat about it.
