Hi Tex. Some genera of everlastings are annuals and others are perennial plants. What they all seem to have in common is their love of Poor Sandy Soil. I don't know much about Texas weather, but they seem to like winter rains and a hot summer drought. If you have severe frosts in winter, try to sow them in early spring when most of the frosts are over. Then, as Robyn6014 says, sow the seed on the surface and carefully rake them in and keep them moist until they mature. Wishing you growing success Jim
Marvin, sow the seeds in spring where they are to bloom, in full sunshine and well-drained soil. All climates suit. Water the young plants well. When they are established they are drought resistant. To dry the flowers, pick them just as they are opening and hang the bunches in a warm, dry place. Cheers, Rosewater. P.S. Don't know where in Texas you live, but Austin is one of Adelaide's sister cities. :)
Marvin, any chance you could give some reciprocal information on growing lisyanthus - which I know I mispelt and hope I am not wrong in thinking come from Texas. We get seedlings here but I have never had much success with them. Re:Rosewater's comments about Austin, it is also one of the most beautiful places in the world. Cathy
