Way COOL Amy, Try the citrus forum if you don't have any luck here. I know I've seen it mentioned many times over there. On our forum there's a guy from Charleston, SC that raises a lot of citrus. He brought me a calamondin citrus to our Raleigh swap one year... Ummm... Cactusrequim is his GW name. He just hosted the plant swap in Charleston on the exchange page, in case I messed the spelling of it up. Good Luck with it! So far I have Keylime, Calamondin, unkwn lemon and an unkwn orange. The orange was a gift from my kids several years ago. A friend of one of them had picked it up from the airport on a trip to FL, it had all of about 2 little leaves and might have been 2 inches tall, now it's about 2 feet tall and growing fast. I was concerned I'd kill it since it was so tiny. Don't know what kind it is or if it'll ever fruit, but being as it's from my kids it has a special place. Even though I had others before, raising that one taught me citrus is a lot tougher then we tend to think. Oh and I feed mine an actual citrus fertilizer (hard to find) or fertilizer for acid loving plants. There are extra minerals it needs in the citrus formulas. I think I found mine while at the coast.

Nik: Just curious as to if you've contacted the site that I suggested in the UK. How far are they located from you? I was impressed with the variety of citrus that they stock. I wish I could purchase some of their citrus but I checked with them and they cannot ship plants, budwood or seeds into the US. So, from that prospective....you're lucky! From the comments that you made to Toni...sounds like better light would be helpful. I still contend that heavy, slow draining soil mixes, plus over watering cause a big percentage of citrus problems. Certainly, fertility, insects, light, temps, pot size, soil and water ph and such are issues too. Well, good luck...hope you can talk to David and his group...I'd bet they can be of help. Best of luck.. Joe in CO

I have been asked for a cutting from my SAMBO LEMON. My tree is small, about 15'' tall. IT is healthy and very bushy. I ALSO HAVE a 2 year old PUMELLO, about 3'to 4' tall and is also bushy. I WOULD LOVE to learn how to take cuttings. I don"t know how. Here are some questions I have and would appreciate any and ALL input and advice. My friend has a rentalhouse next door to me. I have permission to take cuttings from her trees. They are looking shabby but produce AMAZING JUICE ORANGES. Let me say too that I will also search the resources given to me by GATORMOM2 [THANKS] 1.... Are cuttings taken from new or old growth and is there a preferrable seaon to take those cuttings, that will increase my chances for success? 2....How large do the cuttings need to be? 3", 6" 3' or 6' [lol I hope not that big!] 3.....Straight cut or blunt cut....root hormone or not? 4.....Now what do I plant them into ???, AND do I plant immediately or allow them to 'heal over' a day or so? 5. Re: ???, what do I plant my cuttings into. ie sand, dirt, perilite or simular 'stuff'. I have to tell yall I am excited, this is something I have never attempted to do my self. I did buy cuttings for dragon fruit and frangipanni's on ebay last year and followed the instruction each seller sent, with 100% success on both accounts. My frangipanni bloomed earlier this year and is currently putting on a second blooming, The three varieties of Dragon fruit are busily climbing the stucture I set aside for them. These two items have taught me the value of following instructions and detail. Please dont tell me these would have rooted almost any way I treated them! lol PLEASE let me enjoy my fantasy that I did it JUST RIGHT. THANKS AGAIN......MAN DO I LOVE FLORIDA......
