Late tomatoes and fruit fly

I had a dud year with the tomatoes here in Sydney, with everyone being turned into glop by fruit flies.... even the cherry tomatoes. HOWEVER! I cut all the plants back and they are fruiting again. Do I still need to worry about fruit fly now it's getting colder? Or should I be getting all protective on the fruit?

Oh, and any suggestions for tasty cherry toamtoes, the few i got to taste of the Tommy toe where dull.
