Cup and Saucer Vine, I have a pandora pink vine and several black eyed susan vines that are easy to start rooting from. I have butterfly bushes. They are like weeds in my yard. Thankfully, I love them and dont mind where they pop up. Mine were started from Russell seeds also. I have a rainbow of colors. Love, love Lupines! I think they formed robust plants the first year and bloomed the second. The leaves are very attractive, and you must put up with the first years growth in order to have a continuum of blooms for ever after. The blooming plant dies off and you have to rely on the baby plants to keep the blooms going. So let the tops ripen and fall over, or scatter the seeds where you want. One of the best plants. Pondy

I grow lupines in my zone 6 Ohio clay backyard every year. They are my favorite plant. I am a tough love mom, no additives, no extra water, only mulch and what mother nature provides. It's survive or perish in my yard... The Russells and Chateliane are my preference, I winter sow them all and they usually bloom largely on the second spring for me, although a few small blooms have appeared on the first years fall push here and there.. Either way they have all come back year after year and the growing variety of colors have mixed nicely with the other perennials in the beds.

it's nothing you do wrong guys.It's the plant. If you've ever been to Minnesota, PEI, Nova Scotia, Washington state and Maine during the Lupine season, you'll see TONS. They don't particularly like clay soils, and you have to amend the tar out of them....I managed to get them to go in CT briefly...they die out easily. However, the biggest problem here in Ohio is that they like cool summers....so when our hot sun gets combined with the clay soils...it isn't a marriage made in heaven. I know I haven't been here long enough to grow them, but I'm not even going to try given my experience in CT and my knowledge of where they like it....I suppose you could try, but do they make iced tea for Lupines???? :) Lisa
