the highs and lows of travelling

First the low, we followed thins big yellow thing for 105 klms and watched the storms ahead,

and now for one of the highs, this magnificent Bougainvillea was growing beside a cane farm up a tree,

Marion , who had some lovely rain while away and the garden is all green and growing

Beautiful bougie, there is one up our road that looks good but nowhere near as good as that.

I hope you managed to avoid the storms while following your wide load. I assume it would have been going slowish. Must have been a narrow road as usually they will let you past when possible. Patience is a virtue I suppose, and gives you a better chance of seeing the countryside.

We have had some good rain here too Marion, and the Garden is looking good.
Just love that Boug and I can see why they are my most favourite Plant/Flower.
And that is a beauty. A terrific Pic. 10 points for that.

Well you must have a lot of patience as there is no way I could sit in a car
looking at that thing for 105kms, I did not know they could do that.
To me that driver is just a big road hog, surely he could have moved over on to a clearing
Somewhere on that long road, I hope you had a good book there when you finished looking at the clouds.

some of what you are asking will be dependant on how long ago you planted these veggies/herbs. I'm sure you'll get more "expert" advice, but from my experience and research, the brussels, chard, beets, greens onions, arugula, broccoli (which you already know) should be just fine with no covering or protecting. I dont know about pole beans, bush beans should be able to keep producing, but I dont know what the lowest desirable temp for them would be. and the squash I dont know about that variety either, except it is a winter squash, so again, depending on how far along it is and I think the only thing that would hurt it would be frost as well? The tom's will definitely need covering if there is any frost, but at those temps most likely wont do much more especially if they are young plants, but if they have been out awhile and have fruit already growing and are good sized, then I'd say you could keep them for a while longer protecting them from any frost. Parsley wont mind the colder temps, but basil wont like it under 40 or 50. spinach will be fine and I'm not 100% sure about leeks, but I think they would be ok too.

Good points Mike and Michael... A recent industry report that I read indicated that Cardinal supplies something like 45 of the largest 50 window companies with their LowE coatings...and a solid majority of the smaller guys as well. My thinking was that if rswojo0 was buying a coated window, there was a pretty good chance that it would have a Cardinal coating on it...so I passed info on the specific coating designed for high solar gain. Obviously, if rswojo0 wants to buy a window from company "A" and even if they have Cardinal coatings, they may not offer that specific version...and of course there are other coatings available as well. rswojo0 or any other consumer may have to work a bit to find the specific product that they want. Mike, I like the idea of contacting Cardinal and simply asking them if they have info on what window companies offer the high solar gain coating..and the same applies to Guardian as well...and as you said, Cardinal does have plants that make glass, temper it, coat it, laminate it, IG it, probably just about anything else that comes to mind as well! Coating factories are called CG for "Coated Glass" (clever, eh?) Have a great day all!

Glad I got the picture for you Rose.
There were a couple of American backpackers there taking a picture too and asked if I would take one of them in front of the Bougie so I guess a Yankee Mom and Dad will see the beautiful thing too. !!!

Southerners, would you believe the road is the Bruce Highway and is the main highway up north, there were stacks of cars behind us too and not a place for it to move over to let us pass.

yep the best boug's are the one that are ignored and left to their own divices they can turn on a real show hey?

yeh always fun stuck behind a piece of mining eqipment looks like the tipper for a dump truck pity a bit more forward planning they could have moved in in the wee hours of the morning?

like up here on thursday there was some sort of incident just north of curra so all traffic was blocked and going nowhere now app' 1k north of the scene there was a detour road that south bound traffic could have been diverted to, to at least keep one lane moving silly hey.
