ID please of this lovely bush

This is growing in our daughter's yard and is a lovely bush, but it needs trimming quite a bit.

The seed pods are interesting and I was wondering if they are edible.

Always looking for a bit of a nibble from bushes and such !!!

They look like Five Corners Marion,if they are very juicy and edible,see if someone backs me up,greencroc.

I'm sorry I can't identify this plant but there are two fruits that I know of being called 'five corners'.
The first is Averrhoa carambola which has totally different flowers and leaves.
The second is a 'bush tucker' plant Styphelia sp. which I don't think it is either.
Is there possibly another?
Don't start eating yet Marion lol. I'm sure that Tony will help out soon.

'Stellar Pink'?, 'Summer Beauty'? I googled ' buy pink butterfly bush' and those 2 were the only pink cultivars that weren't dwarf selections. These are upright growers, another pink cultivar Grand Cascade has a more weeping habit.

Looks like Baptisia to me too. It is an herbaceous perennial not a shrub and dies to the ground in the winter. Deer will eat it. In my garden at least, it is not a preferred item.

Home, yes Annie and loving the green, green grass of home.
We had some lovely rain while away so the neighbours didn't have any watering to do . only feed the dogs for us.

I think your plant may be a Combretum. I saw (and photographed) this same one in a Townsville park about 25 years ago and someone gave me the name Combretum constrictum. There is such a species, from East Africa, but I can't find a pic for comparison with Google. There is also a very similar South African species, C. bracteosum, with a 5-angled fruit like yours. Google turns up a number of pics of that species, though none are very good.

Marion, I've done a bit more investigating. As usual, Tony is right. From the pictures I have found it is more likely to be Combretum Constrictum because of the fruit shape. There is no reference to the fruit being edible unfortunately. There is another Combretum called C. erythrophyllum whose flowers look the same, but I could not find an image of the seeds and the leaves looked somewhat duller than your daughter's plant.

Yes Dee, I think that is the one as it mentions the 5 sides on the fruit.

Why is it that the fruits of some plants look good enough to have a nibble of but cause problems.

Oh well, I think I will get some seeds when they ripen and give it a try as it looks so beautiful, but as I said it need trimming as the canes from the bottom get very enthusiastic.
