Setting seed is pregnancy. If the plant is stressed, it may not set seed. If, for some reason, the pollen didn't make it to the pistles to accomplish fertilization, or if the weather was not conducive to fertilization (too wet, too cold, too hot, etc.) seed won't be set. If the plant is too immature, it may not set seed. Just as with people, "getting pregnant" is hit and miss. Some are more fertile and willing to set seed than others. Those of us here in extreme heat areas quickly find out how late in the heat we can pollinate before it stops working. A friend out in Rancho Mirage, near Palm Springs, has already stopped pollinating because it's too hot for fertilization to work. I'm still pollinating here just north of Los Angeles because it's still working. If I allow the seed parents to dry out, they'll stop setting seeds. If I don't watch how I water and the pollinated flowers get soaked by the hose, fertilization might easily be stopped for those blooms. If your rose fits any of the mentioned categories, it could explain why seeds didn't set. Kim

I don't have pics, but the construction is pretty simple: Just a sheet of polycarbonate in between a wood frame on the inside and outside, plus some trim, handles, hinges. Sealed with silicone. In the pics, each of the 4 panels is 1 polycarbonate sheet; there are 2 polycarbonate sheets per sash and 2 sashes total. There is vertical trim covering the gap between the sheets in each sash, and another piece of vertical trim that covers the gap between the sashes (which is attached to only 1 of the sashes, so the sashes can be opened independently). There's regular household weatherstripping to block the gaps around the edges of each sash.

Claire Austin will likely be a small climber in zone 10. If your plan is to get PJPII, I would select Charles Darwin, which has the benefit of being close to thornless. PJPII can have a yellow tinge that could play very nicely with Charles Darwin. I think Emily Bronte and Desdemona would make a lovely combo too!... I think the look would be more harmonious than Charles Darwin and PJPII. To my eye, Charles Darwin and Emily Bronte would make a so-so combo... Desdemona is very beautiful! Beginning to think I am of little help... however, my thought is, if it were me, my next planned purchase could help me to decide this one...
