Agree that type of grub makes a difference. They could be harmless and studies show that many who feel they have a severe grub problem actually have little more than a normal population. And yes, some grubs in the garden is considered "normal". ;) Then again they might need some predator nematodes or milky spore powder. Both are considered safe to use around food crops but application timing is critical and it is too late this year in many parts of the country. Otherwise plain old garden tilling resolves most of the problems for most gardeners. Dave

Thank you Campv I have had dead patches in my grass so this might be the problem although I'm hesitant about putting anything in my yard I have a large African Sulcata tortoise that grazes on my grass , And to date my vegetable garden has been organic ..... Although that does not seem to be working ha ha ... Anyway , 7 granules ,does it break down into the soil in other words is it safe for a vegetable garden And my tortoise

I was going to suggest nematodes, but I see you've already found that. That's the only solution I know of. I think these are Japanese beetles. I have LOTS of them; any time I dig new sod they're everywhere and I dispose of most of them as i find them into a bucket of water. The good news is that despite all the grubs, I've never actually seen a Japanese beetle, and I do a lot of gardening (flowers and vegetables), so I don't consider them a problem. If you don't have a problem with the beetles, my advice would be just ignore them and dispose of them as you come across them. Bugs really only become a problem if they bite you or start eating your plants. At least that's what I've come to believe...

I think this might be overkill? I checked on the web, the dosage for the spray-on Confidor for lawns and it says 500ml treats 150m2. That involves a considerable break-down for a pot. But also if it is similar to the working of other lawn grub killers (I don't know if it is) it may rely on the grubs coming up closer to the surface to feed. Whereas I know sometimes I get infestations of curl grubs they can be anywhere in the pot. So you would have to actually drench the pot and I don;t know what damage that might do to a plant. I know Confidor is pretty safe to use if handled carefully except round bees, but then the product is meant for grassed areas. Could you not just re-pot the plants and shake the grubs out in the process? Then apply something like seasol just to reduce shock? Or maybe drench the pots & then apply a very weak solution of potasium permanganate (condy's crystals" it gets worms and cut-worms leaving the pot mighty fast. But failing that, I would try to contact the manufacturer direct and see what they recommend for Confidor use
