It's 8pm and raining and...

my darling son climbed out onto the pegola roof, in the rain, to get these shots.

I haven't touched them up at all...what you see is what is there.

I think that maybe, it'll open up a bit more yet...

!!WOW!! Annie at long last, it Great and wet, is it raining where you are.
It has stopped here we got two huge showers 26mm in the first shower,
Too dark to see whats in the gauge now, but what a welcome downpour.
Terrific Son you have there to get that long awaited piccie Well done.

It takes my breath away, it is so beautiful.
Nature does some wonderful things, doesn't she?
I'm staying a bit longer, just to see if it'll open any more.
I do need your camera (and you, of course). Me and my camera just can't get those wonderful shots that you can.

Actually, lightening is very good for the earth. It regenerates the magnetic field and stimulates things to grow. I tie pieces of nylon stockings on my tomato cages to help generate static electricity created by the wind's friction to help stimulate my tomato plants. Without the wind and the static it creates (lightening being a major result of that), plants would actually do very poorly and would die. We are having yet another cold spell - this is the fifth time that Winter has returned to Oklahoma (Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri too). I just set my tomatoes and peppers out this past week, and normally I would begin harvesting Early Girl tomatoes by May. We are getting lots of wonderful rain and I am greatly thankful for that, but these cold spells are ruining everything and preventing us from being to start a garden. All the plants that the local nurseries and garden centers have put out have been ruined over and over again. I am putting pots and buckets over my veggie plants, but cannot plant anything else or sow warm weather crops until this is finally over...and who knows when the heck that is going to happen? Even the Weather men are stumped by this crazy weather. What few roses have started to bloom (that usually bloom in April) are all ruined and puny looking things. They ain't fit for even the bugs to eat! Phooey! Now the weathermen are saying that with the tornado season just kicking off (May is our peak month), it is predicted to be the worst year for tornadoes ever. More of them and stronger ones too. Swell! Can't win for losing.

Pollan makes it clear, both in his book and in his TV show, that the point is NOT that plants are making intellectual decisions about their own survival. The point is that we humans are in an interspecies relationship with them, meaning that what they to offer humans, has been key to their survival (and in some cases our own as well). Among other implications, it suggests a different perception of gardening, and I believe many gardeners already know this symbiosis, at least intuitively. In that respect we are really no different to certain plants than bees are, a mutual partner in evolution. In a few striking cases, such as tulips, cannabis, apples, and potatoes, the species seem to possess much more than one crucial attribute to make the interspecies relationship thrive. This manifold survival strategy may be a coincidence, although Pollan ponders out loud whether we humans are really as much in charge here as we think we are. He makes a good case that this (and perhaps any )symbiosis could just as easily suggest an evolutionary advantage based on the plants ability to fulfill our changing human desire for what they may offer. Pollan makes no claims of HOW the plants do this, only that what these specific plants seem to have done, seems way beyond coincidence. It is a mystery certainly worthy of scientific investigation and commentary. I do agree with him. This is profound stuff, partly because it suggests a co-creative relationship with plants. I would wonder if we humans possess either the language or the humility to find the answers any time soon. I asked some of the same questions in my book Why We Garden (published by Holt).

It poured up here yesterday and late into the night not to mention that it's been cloudy for a week. I was very happy to have the rain but I better not walk on the grass to much till it's had time to dry out some...Packs the clay in when you walk on it wet. It's good to see the sun shinning again.

I just went to the site and registered... piece of cake! no one was there, so I sent myself a message.. kinda boring, cuz I already knew what I had said, before I received it..lol anyway, I was just killing idle time, before I head up north, to sit with my mom for tonight. I'm sorta looking forward to it, cuz I'm taking my lab/dalmation dog with me and my mom loves dogs. she's going to want to sleep with her, I think, so I gave the dog a twice over bubble bath, with triple action flea shampoo. she's all fluffy and pretty and knows it..lol I gave her a dog treat, right after she drenched the bathroom walls and me, from shaking the water off of herself. I bleached the tub and got things all ready for me to take a shower, too...lol the dog sat on a clean dry towel and I could just imagine what was going through her mind.. "guess it's not so bad to take a bath reluctantly, cuz she's in there willingly" (that's dog thinking).. I know, I live a non-plus life, with no drama! anyway, we're almost ready to leave and I'm fairly sure (almost bet on it) that my niece won't share her computer, so probably won't see any news from here, till later tomorrow, unless I drive home late tonight and that's not out of the realm of possibilities.

Yes it sure is beautiful, and Nature does do wonderful things.
No sign of that very bright moon tonight, it must be hiding under all those clouds.
That would have put a nice glow on your flower,You watch out for those terrible mozzies.

Good brave boy to do that for his Mum.
Now that flower is worth the wait really beautiful. so are the rain drops, hope you had enough rain to do some good in the garden.

Great photos, say thank you to your son, hope he didn't risk his life in a storm, hope it was just rain. At least you didn't have to sit up all night with the coffee (and chocolate bikkies)

It was actually just light rain but you know what 18 year olds are like.
He whinged and moaned and groaned like it was Cyclone Tracey out there.
He loves marinated chicken wings so I'm going to do a whole bowl .... just for him (maybe me :))) )
