The exact name of the plant is Epiphyllum oxypetalum. It is extremely easy to grow, fairly drought tolerant, and grows prolifically once it gets started. We have to prune it so much that we end up throwing away half the plant because we have no more room. They are easy to root, and so I have rooted a lot of cuttings and given them away. The fragrance they produce is overwhelming, but the flowers only last one night, and are over by morning. Still, they put out quite a few flowers at a time and more buds will be opening tonight. I have a lot of other epiphyllum, but they do not get this large. Birds like to perch on top of this plant, and I can see the birds from my living room by looking through the window at the top of my door. The plant also requires a lot of staking. Lars

I did get a bit of information on another forum so will let this move on down. If by any chance anyone has more info on this subject please jump in, I still don't know how long it takes for the seed pod to ripen, apparently it takes quite awhile. Annette

I asked my friend Grant to id this epi here is his reply, The offer of a plant is for me as he lives in Auckland too. :-)) Heather From Grant who is an expert and cross pollinates Epis and such like. 'Looks like Epiphyllum hookeri but.............. Foliage reddish. Plant under stress? Usually green. Flowering in the day time - early morning??? This is a 12 hour flowering plant (usually at night and strongly perfumed.) at night. Flower shape, structure and stem length is right. Stem (Phylloclads) look right. Epi hookeri have cuttings growing. Want one? When it produces fruit (self sterile) they mature in 2.5 months - to 3 months. to about the size of a standard chicken's egg. Contents are Very tasty - like sorbet. White with white strands through it. The seed are like little bean seeds. This is a real treat to taste.'

Well Annie tell it to get a move on, have you got a axe
Standing one of those near it may make it get a move on.
Yes I would give the snails a miss too,
A few squares of chocolate would go with it better.
