It's really silly to argue with the success of someone growing a palnt a world away from it's natural habitat. Here in Dallas, aethiopicas do extremely well as a winter houseplants with an eastern exposure. A SW exposure will surely scortch, if not BBQ them behind glass on a sunny winter afternoon. In your situation, I would not try to force them into dormancy "because they're supposed to" unless they stop growing or refuse to flower. Keiko

Hello, and welcome! I'm in Albany, which is just a couple of towns south of Hercules. We have pretty much the same zone: usda 9b/10a, and sunset 17. Hercules is about a 10 minute drive up interstate 80 from me. You'll love it! Annie's will be about a 5 minute drive (really!) from you. Don't bring your current plants; for the reasons mentioned, and most of us out here don't have lots of space anyway, and there's so much stuff to choose from anyway! There's not much that doesn't grow here. Yes, it's raining buckets here (like every day recently), but come summer, I swear we won't have a single drop, so prepare for that as well! Hercules is a bit more up in the hills, I believe, and our east bay hills have high fire dangers in the summer, but I won't worry you with that just yet... ; ) On a more positive note, we can grow things like amaryllis, brugmansia, and even many orchids, outside yearround! Don't pay much heed to the freak bit of snow dusting we got in the bay area a few months ago-- it's practically unheard of. Won't happen in Hercules, for sure! You may get deer, raccoons, and opossums, and we have lots of squirrels and the occasional skunk, but not much else. Lots of seagulls! Okay, I'm rambling. But you'll love it. Good area nurseries besides Annies Annuals-- Longs Drug Store (51st & Broadway, Oakland) East Bay Nursery (San Pablo Avenue, Berkeley) Westbrae Nursery (Gilman Avenue, Berkeley) Berkeley Horticulture (McGee Avenue, Berkeley) If you're into cactus and succulents, there's a neat (though pricey) place on 4th street in Berkeley with interesting things. Lots of hydroponic places also... Berkeley would be about a 10 minute drive (in a low traffic situation-- don't get me started on interstate 80 traffic) south from you, and Oakland is just past Berkeley. You'll love it. Old thread, new question. It was suggested to me on the bath forums to use the hercules harness. I watched the video and it seems easy enough. The video shows a double sink so the long piece is under the center of the sink. I'm not sure where to place that part when installing a china/porcelain undermount sink on granite, because of the plumbing in the center. Can it be off off to one side and have drain between the wires? I believe the countertop place does drill and give you clips, but the sinks are not installed for you. Which forum should I ask about transporting a 72" piece of granite with double sink cutouts. We have a tahoe, but you aren't supposed to lay it flat. It's from a home surplus type of place. For $100 they will deliver. Any tips?
