Yesterday I received an e-mail to this quiestion from Larry Stanley himself, he wrote: The plant was supossedly from Aldrich Mountain where the last ice age did not touch. Talon Buchholz had bin up there and says there are just a few noots hanging on. Well as soon as we planted here it went throug a kind of transformation and seems to be more of a Thuja plicata. We would like to have it done by DNA to find out if it is a missing link between the two and how elevation and location my play on these two species. When we first put it in I swear we keyed the fruit and it was noot. Now it has fruit of Thuja plicata. try the smell test even it will not work quit well. Recorded temperatures have this thing going to -32F. Conclusion here: Brought to early in the trade way before it was figered out was it realy was, but the fruit says Thuja plicata while Resin says that there are non of these there of in it's neighbourhood of this Aldrich Mountain. Maybe it was a cross between these which was made way before the last ice age and the Thuja plicata's died and this cross and the Xanthocyparis nootkatensis survived? I think this is the answer. What do we get if we sow the seeds of this plant? If it is a cross (F1) the chance is very big that these seedlings which appear will be Xanthocyparis nootkatensis and Thuja plicata seedlings. (F2) Or these seedlings (F2)will be the same as the motherplant. Enough quiestions here...

Down here, we have a variety called Natchez that I love, but I'm not sure it is available in your area. The bed at the house is about 6' deep and, yes, I plan to put in a hedge row and then a smaller variety in front of that. I need to take a closer look at this though, once I have the measurements. The curves are supposed to be gentle and flowing, not scalloped. I guess my picture appears a bit busy, LOL, but that isn't my intention. Brent_in_NoVa: Thanks for reminding me about foot traffic. I think I will add a stone 'landing' so that people walking up the drive won't be crammed between a parked car and the bed. My parents have the same type of walk/drive and it is a pain for this very reason. For the retaining wall, I think this is probably as high as it will go. She really doesn't want it at all, but I think it is necessary for erosion control. Other homes have the same slope and very few have walls. One the right side of the property, I would like to pull the neighbor's yard into hers, hence the river birch. There is more room than it appears, and I wanted something that would get pretty dense. She has probably 15' of that part of the land, but I will need to measure again. I will be posting a 'real' landscape design once I have the measurements. Marion you have a yellow franni, pity we didn't live closer we could swap colours. Hi Kathy I lived at Bluewater for 5 yrs its 35kms north of TSV before we moved here and I had lots of different colours they seem to have more up there in the tropics than down here, I bought my best colours from the Sunday Market at the TSV Showgrounds.I am sure you will be able to get what you want when you get back. No it is not a soursop Greencroc, I know what it is here is a clue "If you asked 99% of the people in the world what their favourite food was " you will find the answer, have another go...Cheers..MM.
