I found a Yellow Frangipani at the Botanic Gardens

Hi Everyone I had a great time today Hubby took me to the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens I really wanted to go to the one near the river in the City but not sure about parking, and as it was hot 35 degs and humid today we had to carry lots of bottled water, and we needed the car kind of close. I seen so many interesting trees and flowers and dragons, in the Japanese Garden they were running around everywhere, even in front of you when you were walking down a path, they are not frightened of us humans isnt that great.....Cheers..MM.

I was delighted to find this Frangipani it looks Yellow to me what do you think.

I had a bit of trouble getting pics of the flowers as they were right up the top of the tree

And I didn't have a ladder with me, I need wings sometimes:

That yellow franni is a beauty.
I have 3 of them but they all seem to have just a bit of white on the edges.
Maybe you could catch up with one of the gardeners there and they "just might" give you a bit of it, they do need trimming at times !!!!

Hi, MM. I am moving back to Townsville in about 7 weeks. I love frangipannis. I have a white that we collected from Jupiter's Casino back in 2001. Since then I have struck 2 more. One is a pink/yellow, the other is a dark pink. I am planning on putting them on the footpath. I have owned the house there since 1979 and it is my home, where I raised my family. Hopefully, I can find a yellow one to strike as well.

Hi Bahia, Thanks for the info. I had seen the SF Botanical Garden site and seem to remember that even at the specialized sales there is a mix of plants. The one tomorrow is a general sale. Actually, I don't intend to get those Passifloras for myself. I merely mentioned them because I am aware they are very hard to come by, which I believe makes it one of the few places to find those species. I understand they are a good source of Tacsonias in general. Personally I was having trouble keeping a young P. tripartita v. mollisima happy (it's OK at the moment). It was hard hit by our unprecedented heat last summer and a nasty spider mite infestation. That plant was unfazed by our 26 F morning last month. I'm not in the market for the more difficult species. Thanks for the info on the P. parritae, though. I do know someone who might be interested. As an aside: I mentioned on a different thread that I picked up a Strelitzia juncea at the Dry Garden. Just out of curiosity--I recall that you are in the landscaping/design business. Why isn't this plant used more frequently? I've always found it to be stunning--surely I'm not the only one. Regarding Passiflora antioquiensis, in case anyone is interested in tracking that species down. Grassy Knoll Exotics appears to still have the plant available for $15. Elizabeth Peters seems to have a policy of charging that price for essentially all of her 100+ Passifloras no matter how "rare" or "desirable". It's refreshing to see someone with an attitude like that. She guarantees tbe P. antioquiensis is the real thing. She also has its hybrid with P. tripartita v. mollissima: 'Exoniensis'.

I found a (new to me) Garden to visit

Since it was cloudy and cool I went early this morning. It is a nice short walk mostly wooded along a stream on the nature trail with the second half dry brush, sunny and a hill. Ground squirrels running around and Blackheaded Grosbeaks. Lots of benches and even couple of picnic tables. There is a playground nearby for the kids. The salvia garden had just a few in bloom. Ca fuschia was blooming also. I didn't check out the rare fruit tree area. I want to go back when the Clevelandii sage is blooming cuz there are tons of those. Oh I saw several callistemon citrinus 'little john' about 3 feet tall and 5 feet in diameter...thought I'd mention that since on this forum we've discussed the size it gets. It is a nice little hidden garden, take a lunch, but go early not a lot of parking with the playground and baseball field nearby.

Tree looks like a Soursop tree,The Magnolia is a beauty,lovely plants.They are a lovely bird,I think it,s a Cormorant,thought it might be a Shag when I first saw it.The fruit is not a Soursop in that tree but that how they grow,the mind boggles MM,greencroc.

Hi Kathy I lived at Bluewater for 5 yrs its 35kms north of TSV before we moved here and I had lots of different colours they seem to have more up there in the tropics than down here, I bought my best colours from the Sunday Market at the TSV Showgrounds.I am sure you will be able to get what you want when you get back.

No it is not a soursop Greencroc, I know what it is here is a clue "If you asked 99% of the people in the world what their favourite food was " you will find the answer, have another go...Cheers..MM.

I just love that magnolia...isn't it magnificent?
I planted a Little Gem magnolia last year but it's still only a baby.
I don't have the room for the big one....darn it!

I believe the tree could be the chocolate tree,the ginger is A.purpurata.
Where are the bamboo pics Misty! :)

The leaves look sapote-ish, so I'd say it was a chocolate pudding fruit or one of them. Definitely not a pawpaw as it's a herb not a tree.

Great pictures, definitely need to go there whenever I'm in Brisbane next.

Thanks for naming the ginger I was surprised at how many plants had no names on them.
The bamboo well it was like this Richard they were so tall I had to take the pics so far away
That you could not see them properly, I burnt the 200+ pics on to CD and deleted them from the computer
But I will have a look tomorrow and see if there were any close ups.

Annie it is a magnificent tree there were two there.

Great pix, MM, especially the green eyes on that chap drying his/ her wings.

Thought of you, Kathy, the other day when I was roaming around the nursery in Idalia, T'ville. Didn't buy frangiis tho', but persuaded by a very enthusiastic local to get a couple of shiny Syzygium 'Cheetahs'. Nothing like an impulse buy!

I was worried about the botanical gardens with the water restrictions being applied there but guess the storms are doing a good job?
