Since you are in FL, your tree dahlia probably blooms; I'd love to see that. I have a very healthy lt pink, and since I am in Oregon, if the summer is nice & hot, in October it will put out 1 or 2 blooms at the very top of the plant (you need binoculars to see them). I bought mine from PD, and I love it, except I can't share tubers with friends because they are so tough and inter-grown that I can't dig them. I cut some off with a hand saw, but they did not grow.

Whoopie! Thanks so much for those nursery names. I tried the first three and got the same results I got on my own...none in stock or not shipping. But on that last one JACKPOT! They had multiple types. I'm ordering the double lavender. I live in Tampa so no problem growing them here. They did have a minimum...which first meant I had to get three plants. I was going to offer the other two for trade/sale, but then started cruising their catalog and had no problem then hitting that minimum, lol. Thanks again, Lori

I have started some new Tree dahlia's from my own cutting sections, As I remember the new growth will come from the nodes as in your instructions, so the cutting should have 2 nodes. I think orientation matters if you stick it in vertically, not sure if you can tell on your pieces. I have the double purple, which has been blooming since November I think. I would be happy to trade some for a white one. Chad

I must admit, this has been one of the funniest forums I have read lately. I have been meaning to try these myself and would appreciate any cuttings. My closest contact has been with my neighbour who must have thought she was planting ordinary dahlias. She put them right in the front of her border and they are over nine feet high and doing very well. Full sun and completely unsupported. Even the last big blow didn't knock them over, which surprised me. She is a new arrival from Mauritius and probably thinks she has the greenest thumb in the neighbourhood. Nobody has had the heart to tell her they are tree dahlias. :)
