Did you ever figure out what this is? 11 years ago is a long time. I've been growing my bush beans in the same bed for three years now. They've always been gorgeous. I've got sunflowers, sweet potatoes and tomatoes in the same bed. And everything looks great. This is the first year my bush beans have done this. I do have pole beans on the other side of the yard. They usually always get rust. I I have a big feeling this is from overwatering. It's been raining the last 10 days. And in the last month we've had more than 16 days of rain. Definitely not a lack of nutrients. Definitely no spider mites and no aphids or any bugs that would cause this. Very interested to know if you found anything out. I get pictures on the internet and that's it. Thank you sincerely

It's been several years since I grew favas, so I hope my recollections are correct. I grew a small seeded variety called Bonanza. The seeds were neither white nor black. They were dark brown, dark enough so you could perhaps put them in the black category. The flowers were a striking black and white. My most interesting memory of the favas is that they were visited by a hawk moth, which both I and my grand daughter at first mistook for a humming bird because of its size and the way it hovered at the flowers. Also, it appeared mid-day, when you don't normally see moths. However, its color was unlike any humming birds of this region. Jim

In the future, forget about purchasing lady beetles. If you minimize pesticide use at your place, they're already there. Further, their collection is thought to be one of the various factors contributing to the decline of their population.

Very possible that the little black fellows are aphids. If so, they suck plant sap and will weaken the plant. Rub them off, or use direct hits of insecticidal soap, diluted according to label directions. In both cases, repeat as needed. I'm not able to see enough detail to suggest what the white might be.
