I would love some gloriosa aisy seeds.I have vegs(some organic).I just moved and trying to get organized.Have bush beans,lettuce,spinach,parsley,corn,etc.

Yes, you mentioned diviricata, already GG (I had just bought a calico aster) so I did indeed put one on order. I few years ago, I also managed to grow a really late aster - aster pilosum var pringlei (I think). Known as frost aster (by me) because it is SOOO late to bloom. Had forgotten about that one but it did survive the relatively dry woods so may also give that a go. I vaguely recall dealing with shasta daisies in a customers garden which didn't flower till Sepember. Am I thinking of a different chrysanthemum here (cos there are so many)?. Whites can be really tricky in an open sunny garden...but maybe with billowy grasses, late flowering umbels, achilleas and clouds of daisies, it might just work. It will certainly be very different to my usual late summer choices. I am also taking some silver-leaved cuttings (convolvulous cneorum, artemisias and caryopteris, to go with my silver leaved buddleja 'Silver Anniversary and various centaureas). I have all the 'bones' in hand - just needing fillers, so i is fairly thrilling. I am usually fed up by the end of July and have a month or so off until September, when my gardening mojo comes back. That is exactly what I do, a2zmom. I go straight from admiring the blooms to chopping the whole bunch back with no attempt to stay on top of minuscule floral heads, one at a time. Have a bidens just awaiting this exact treatment.

GardenHo, Have you smell the green leaves, the strong Asian perfume like aroma can not go unnoticed. But, rest of the story is same like you mention. Looks exactly same otherwise. It spread widely and I have to trim it to keep space for other flowering plants. Next season I will move other plants so it can grow in the entire length. It spread underneath and occupy many surrounding places. I am looking forward to somebody who can solve the mystery of strong Aroma.May be it is a species, that is unique or I discover a new species. There is one more point, now that the white petals are gone with cold climate and I have the middle yellow round portion, when I squeeze it, the same aroma ooze out. I also have other Shasta daisy plants in few other spaces at my property but they do not have any aroma and also leaves are little different.I will soon start another discussion about Golden Berry that I cultivate.

This plant is not native to anywhere, let alone Alaska :-) 'Alaska' is a cultivar of Leucanthemum superbum, a hybrid daisy created by Luther Burbank in California in 1890. Original parent species are European wildflowers. The cultivar name, along with the common name of Shasta daisy, is a reference to the snowy white color of the flowers. While extremely easy to grow (and start from seed), the plants are not particularly long lived, with the clumps thinning or dying off after a couple of years. And because they tend to get tall, lanky and kind of floppy, I have always thought they benefit from a mid spring Chelsea Chop myself!
